I’d like to add a wood burner to our home. My mom heats her entire 2k+ sqft house with a cast iron forced air fireplace. It will burn you out of the living room if your not careful!

 

I could swing that.
Then I would get to make high speed desert runs too.

 

Yeah in the next month or so everyone gets wet to off-road and get out. Fall is absolutely my favorite time of the year here, I bet @Azblue would agree

 

I have one about that large and my wife has been after me for over a year to take out the brick on each side. Not sure what she plans to do once I get around to it but she says it will make the room feel larger.
It's the biggest room in the house other than our bedroom and only 2 of us in the house. I'm guessing she will want me to add on wings later.

Ive got a lawyer bud that lives outside of Lake Havasu that grew up in Alabama.
He’s been trying to get us to move out there for three years now.
“Come on out. You’ll love it. It’s a dry heat and cool at night.” Is his mantra.

I will say, when we did flight ops in Fallen, Nevada the weather was always nice and my sinuses would clear up.

Would if I could but I'll be smashing brick at some point. I'm sure the kitchen remodel will keep her occupied for awhile.

 

Here in Ma. we get the full spectrum of Weather, my beloved wood stove is the best addition I've done to my house.

Wood heat is the best heat IMO, we have a forced hot air furnace which we hate, and probably haven't turned on in 20 years.

 

A wood fireplace is the one thing I wish we’d done when we built. Adding it now would not be easy.

But I also grew up with that as the only source of heat and so spent every August in the woods falling, bucking, splitting, and stacking 6-8 cords of wood and then being the one to fill the woods box every morning, stoke or rebuild the fires if they went out, etc.

 

Cats love fireplaces, as you know!
My mom has a cat condo next/near hers and the cats are such sluts when the fire is cranking!

Lots of manufacturers make retrofit kits that are pretty straightforward and easy to install.

 

we had German shepherd growing up that would sleep between the Fischer barrel stove and the rock wall next to it. There was barely enough room to fit in there and she’d be sleeping away. You could smell her hair burning sometimes but she was perfectly content.

 

Haha yeah I’ve woken up in the tent with our big dog way to close to the buddy heater, the smell woke me up, but I could barely get him to move to “safety”

 

I’d have to put a chimney in first. I’ve got two stories plus a daylight basement, and all the outside walls have windows where you would run a chimney, so I’d need to run it up the center of the house beside the stairs. Believe me - I’ve got a plan in my mind how to do it…just haven’t been able to justify it yet…

 

FYI....the "green" card is actually slow white...

A guy I work with has a blue card. I think that is a legal permanent alien or something. He’s lived stateside more than 30 years, has an OR drivers license, owns firearms, got married and raised his family here, etc.
