AWD is like an Audi, doesn't have a transfer case, no 4LO ability. Toyotas full-time 4WD is just that, you're in 4WD all the time, any time, on any road surface, any weather, but you have 4LO if you choose to do so.

Great system, proven for millions of miles in Land Cruisers, 4Runners and Sequoias over the years.

4WD is what Toyota provides in their body on frame vehicles. AWD is for unibody like Sienna and RAV4.

Body on frame allows ground clearance, lots of mods available.

Specifically the full time 4WD system Toyota uses for the Land Cruiser for example uses a Torsen (torque sensing) center differential in the transfer case. Typically these units are made to have a default torque split between axles, many applications are 30% to the front axle and 70% to the rear axle all the time. The differential mechanically senses differences in torque at each axle and will automatically lock up to send torque to the slowest spinning axle (the one with traction). The Torsen is extremely durable, and doesn’t use clutch packs or electronics to accomplish this. Further the model Toyota and several other manufacturers that use Torsen products spec has the ability to lock the differential to a permanent 50/50 torque split, and to engage a low range gear reduction that also does a fixed 50/50 torque split.

The downside is this fancy pants transfer case and differential is $$$ compared to a basic selectable 4X4 case with a high range and low range. A Torsen uses more very precisely machined gears, and they’re usually going to be machined from a tough steel forging, and need to be heat treated to a strict specification. That isn’t to say a Toyota spec’d basic 4X4 transfer case is lowest bidder trash, just that it’s not as expensive to make as the Torsen.

Toyota cutting global production 40%!!!! Just like the dealer told me a couple days ago. “it’s going to get a lot worse”. I know a number of people that are employed by Toyota and I feel bad that they might be unemployed soon??

Also, I think the unions have negotiated they stay paid. I can't find the article, but I thought I read Ford was doing that.

It’s never enough,,, I would bet 2 dollars that the prices of all their vehicles will go up now. The excuse now for everything is because of the virus!!! I was told this weekend HVAC outfits were hoarding units just like toilet paper!!:) so they could have more than the next guy. Had to replace our whole system this weekend and luckily they charged prices from before and not current prices. It wasn’t a great deal but anything helps.

Make sure you go out and put toilet paper!!!!

    From article today

    • There is one North American plant that will keep running at full steam, and that's the one that will build the new Tundra, which is finally being updated with a new generation after well over a decade.

Smart employers are keeping their employees, if you haven't noticed almost every place you look has a help wanted sign out front. You let someone go right now and you'll never replace them.

Not in my case. Had to replace one of the HVAC units (entire kit) in one of my businesses. Actually being installed today and got a very good deal on it. Of course we were putting vendors against each other. The vendor that normally services our businesses was complacent and tried to take advantage of us and bid a generic builder grade piece of crap at a premium price. Their competition came in with a better name brand unit with a 30% cheaper price.

TFL Truck apparently stumbled across some road testing of the new Tundra against a Lincoln Navigator and a 2021 F150 Powerboost.

    looks good!

I'm about to cause a stir in this thread, but I'm definitely going to eat crow right now. I've had my f150 powerboost now for a few months... This is my first non-toyota truck ever. Thing is glitchy as hell now, and built to a substandard level. I will be selling this truck and likely get a 22 tundra. I can only imagine what it will be like in a couple years. I will elaborate more later or if asked, but seriously: if you're used to a Toyota truck, and think there are greener pastures in the domestic world, you will likely be disappointed.

Yeah, pretty much a waste of a video. I kept expecting them to follow the tundra out onto the road and see how it was performing while towing instead of trying to figure out why there were Ford's there.

That's an excellent mentality for the courtroom. It probably serves you, and your clients, well.

However, bringing that mentality to an enthusiast forum and speaking to others in a condescending manner that implies they are dumb for not fully embracing your decision to buy a different vehicle, and that they are even dumber for not doing as you have done.... yeah, you're gonna get some flak for it. Know your audience, in a sense.

I do commend you for owning it and sticking around for the crow instead of just disappearing.

That’s kinda why I bought a 21 TRD pro. My F150 build is delayed and I figured I’d buy the tundra and give it a shot and if I loved I’d keep it. If not then I’d take my F150. I think I’m going to be keeping the TRD. The f150 forum opened my eyes lol

Little random things at first-- Stereo will turn on at any speed above 20-30 mph, and come out blasting. The dash HU will reset randomly (typically every other week).
Medium things-- door panels didn't line up from the get go. Took it in, and they said that was as close as they could get it. Then, I started noticing a howling wind noise from the driver a pillar at high speed. Still haven't figured that out. Axle is already rusting out, and I live in Reno where it hasn't rained in what feels like a year (must be from just washing the car.) Driver door panel creaks while driving, and Ford said they can't replicate it.
Larger things-- Power cuts out randomly while driving, and a High Voltage warning comes on. I turn truck off and it goes away, and truck starts moving again. Have an appointment for that first available, late September.

Well it seems the majority of updates have been coming out two weeks apart and usually (not always) on Tuesdays. This means we should see something tomorrow morning! Here’s hoping there’s some substance to it and not just a close up pic of a light bar.
