I have 2018 Tundra, stock, the usual. Sometimes when I try to put the shifter into D, from P, it resists and refuses to go into D. Then I turn the truck off and restart it, and then keep diddling with the shifter, and by the grace of god, it allows me to put it into D after more frustrating diddling. I have no idea what this could be..... Maybe I'm the only one?

Try wiggling the steering wheel and see if that “unlocks” it next time……

So does it go to reverse or neutral? Column or floor shifter?

I agree with @shawn474, try messing with the steering wheel to make sure the shift lock isn’t stuck there.

If column shifter it's known for getting "stuck" in P if the trans is holding the weight of the truck on an incline. Unless its freezing out I use the parking brake 100% of the time when parked. Otherwise I swear I could do pullups off the shifting lever.

When I park the truck, it's shifted to N, parking brake depressed, service brake pedal released, and shifter moved to P fast enough to not engage reverse. No more sticking issues after adopting that procedure

its automatic trans w shifter on floor. Sometimes when i go to start the truck the lever will not move from the P position. I try to step on the brake for a few seconds longer prior to trying to shift into D, and still it makes no difference. Then i will turn the truck off and start it again and wiggle wiggle the lever. Usually it snaps out of its 'mood' and will go to D after repeated restarts. Thanks

the shift is on the floor and i do live on an incline. However this has also happened when i dont park on an incline.

I will try your procedure using the Ebrake and Neutral when using park. Thanks!
