I would assume the front wheel drive system is based on a electric motor. They could borrow that technology. Other hybrid AWD models do that to drive the rear wheels. The loss of the parasitic drag caused by constantly turning everything forward of the transfer case when 4 wheel drive is not engaged would pick fuel mileage up. Look at the fuel mileage difference between 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive vehicles. And I would also guess a weight savings.

Separate drive systems lose a huge positive if the ICE is in the front and it drives the rear wheels. The driveshaft and associated tunnel would eat a lot of space into what would be the battery area. Plus that would be a lot of space taken up in the front end if there's both engines up there.

Absolutely it could be done, but think it would be more for an AWD vehicle like the Sequoia could be, not 4WD vehicles like the Land Cruiser and Tundra because of because of the driveshaft going to the rear

Not sure an electric motor would take up more room then a front differential.

Time will tell, but the color remains interesting to me after a year of driving. I like the green with the black trim and accents together. I was fortunate in coming across this when I did and jumped on it. Like many darker colors, it reveals imperfections and scratches more readily than lighter colors. But, it cleans up well and I'm a big fan of Griot's. It will be interesting to see what unique color Toyota comes up with for the '22 Pro. I think they have all been very interesting and look great.

    BINGO!

When faced with limited production car companies make cars and trucks for wealthy people because those cars and trucks are more profitable per unit.

Poor people can go pound sand. No new vehicle for you!

Old VW van styling with a mid engine Tundra - just like a sportscar :rofl:Battery under the passenger compartment for maximum capacity.

I think we've solved most of the new Tundra design issues now in this thread, Toyota is probably taking all this into account for it's 2022 model. ;)

And the owner's manual (that no one reads) will change service intervals to hours instead of thousands of miles.

You're correct. All Tacomas are rolling out of TMMGT Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Guanajuato - Wikipedia and TMMBC now. TMMTX now is exclusively Tundra and taking on Sequoia production from TMMI Indiana. IMO, to cover the loss of Tacoma in Texas Toyota needs to market the Sequoia better, get a bigger chunk of the jumbo SUV segment.

Did I just read that someone said the Sequoia doesn't have a drive shaft?

I think Ford made a small electric motor that fit between the engine and transfer case, or maybe it was transfer case and drive shaft. I wonder how far away we are from a small electric motor that could be retrofit to all trucks, maybe with a battery the size of a in bed toolbox. Something just big enough to get over the startup hump on normal driving that eats up the most gas.

That already exists in mild hybrids where the automatic transmission torque converter is replaced with an electric motor. If I had to guess that is what we will see on the Tundra hybrid too.

This is why I am buying a 21 TRD pro. My lease is up in December and finally figured I prophet wouldn’t get the new gen delivered to me on time. Toyota cut production and the dealer I’m getting the 21 from said their highest reservist is at 10k over msrp

Next Gen Sequoia won't be AWD, never has been and won't be. It's full-time 4WD with a transfer case as the Tundra but has Torsen limited slip with electronic CDL in the transfer case. New Seq will be the same.

Current Seq has 2WD, fulltime 4WD with CDL, and 4LO. Next gen hopefully will be the same. Seq drivetrain will be like the LC300 but maybe still has a 2WD setting and available at a reasonable cost.

I think Toyota is aiming to slide the new Seq into the segment that loves Land Cruiser offroadability, but 30k cheaper. MTS, Crawl Control like the LC200 and LC300. The new LX jumbo SUV based on the LC300 will please those that want the status.

Probably will get flamed, but why would a sequoia need 4lo. I would think most sequoia owners would prefer AWD.

A permanent 4WD case with a Torsen center differential can still have a low range so why not? Land Cruisers use that set up.

Why would you not want that?

    I want a Sequoia-L option like a Suburban/Yukon XL. I wish Sequoia's current 4wd system was in the Tundra.

I wouldn't have bought the Seq if it didn't have 4LO. Must have. And, you're confused again about AWD vs full-time 4WD. Seq is full-time 4WD, not AWD.

I hear ya. I’m in a weird situation. My ordered f150 is delayed so I’m buying the TRD. If I love it I’ll keep it, if it ain’t for me I’m hoping I can at minimum break even given the vehicle type.

I think the Tundra and Sequoia will get plenty of updates. LC300 drivetrain in both, MTS and Crawl Control available, lockers available. Toyota put a lot of money into this TNGA-F platform to get more market share.

I think awd just uses vsc(vechile stability control) to control which wheel to send the power too... i.e. not the ones that are slipping. 4wd is its just locked in to a 4wd setting, both diffs get power. Awd systems just kicks in whenever the computer tells it too. 4wd only works when you put the vehicle in 4wd
