No FJ. But I’ve had a 2013 Tacoma, 2018 4Runner, and 2016 Tundra. Have a 2019 Jeep Rubicon and looking to dump it for a Sequoia.

Yes, I did the Rubicon a month ago in my FJ. Pretty easy you'll be fine.

@snivilous knows. It’s a piece of shit if we are being honest. I’ve been stuck on the side of the road twice in a year, most recently Thursday night. @snivilous ’ gf came to tow my ass home. I got the fully loaded so it’s very similar to our Laramie diesel in terms of interior features. It’s fine for around town driving or light wheeling but throw some 37s on that bitch and you won’t really enjoy interstate driving. Especially with elevation. You should get better reliability for a $50k vehicle. Get an extended warranty and a AAA membership for towing.

I guess one thing that I’m indifferent about but have noticed is that I am constantly getting compliments about my Jeep. But compliments don’t mean a thing if I’m stuck on the side of the road in the dark.

I have rented a few wranglers.
Fun to have the top off but man are they noisy.
Squeaks and rattles. Felt a bit on the cheap side for the price.
Last one was a turbo 4 cyl. Quick and decent fuel economy but loud. Sounded like a diesel. Had to open the hood before I filled it up just to make sure.
Absolutely hate it shutting off every time you come to a stop. You can push a button to keep it from doing it but you have to do it every time you start it, I would look for a permanent fix to that.
If it will be a daily driver it has a bit rougher ride than almost anything out there.
When I got back from vacation I was happy to be back in the FJ.
128,500 miles and no issues with the FJ.
New Brakes at 115,000 miles and fluid changes.
Unless you do serious hard-core off Roading or you need the full for doors, I think you’ll regret trading it eventually. Jeeps are everywhere.

That saying if I won the lotto I would add one to my collection.

I had an FJ and swapped it for a jk when I needed more room for the family. Less than two years later I traded it back for an FJ. The jeep rode like shit. Got a little better after a $2500 lift kit from AEV. The jeep also leaked from the roof seals, which cause mildew. Biggest problem I ever had with three different FJ’s was the cost of replacing a windshield. If I could get both my kids in the back seat of the FJ, I’m 6’6” so no room behind me in the FJ, I’d trade the tundra in a heart beat. The FJ was the best vehicle I’ve owned and my favorite.

Only thing I don't like about the Fj is the 4 door issue. My son sais pain in the ass to get in and out. Offroad is good. Also articulation is much better in Rubicon . So the 3.6 pentastar is no good I've seen good reviews on that engine?

I think it all depends on what your expectations are and what options you get. For instance, I have been very impressed with the 4 cylinder turbo if you run the correct fuel. The V-6 Penstar motor is very reliable and can be supercharged to put out 440 hp. Then again, you can also get a 392 Hemi powered JL for those of you that want 470 HP to break everything possible.

Another issue is the eTorque. Not many people have had luck with this system and will leave your ass on the side of the road and around a 500.00 battery bill. No thanks. I would also turn off the auto shutdown in town.

After this last weekend in Crested Butte Colorado with a 2020 JLRU....not sure what I have plans for after retirement in a few years. I really like what my friend has done to his and it does great running down the highway at 75 mph. At 80-85 mph in UT it starts to struggle a bit and fuel economy dives really bad (as expected at that speed).

    CB401DF8-DD14-4553-B28F-EA12552B4844.jpg 93EEC5A6-D6BD-4894-B0F2-7AFBACC654A7.jpg jl.jpg

    Mods that I know of:

@AccuTune Offroad lift/Fox 2.5 shocks. This JL rides like a dream and they did a great job on the shock tuning. This was not a cheap upgrade. Shocks alone were 2900.00. Buy once/cry once. Get what you pay for.
    https://accutuneoffroad.com/product-category/fox-racing-shocks/fox-smoothie-shocks/25-fox-fs-ss-rr/

37" Cooper STT Pro tires on factory wheels with spacers. This tire combo is 106 lbs each and lighter than other options. The tires grab and pretty quiet on the highway for such an aggressive tire.

4.88 gears. The JL was pretty good with the 4.10s and 37's but this really put it back to stock feel. There is no lack of power in this JL.

RCV axle shafts front and some kind of alloy shafts in the rear.

Artec axle trusses front and rear.

Reid knuckles (you can use Mohave ones) to replace the aluminum ones. Aftermarket steering links.

Nemesis Industries sliders. You need to be careful on who you go with on JL's and sliders. The sliders need to be frame mounted due to the empty shell rockers.

    https://nem-ind.com/

Belly protection. Can't remember who he went with but they are aluminum and cover the belly nicely.

Spare tire holder. it holds the 37" spare just fine.

    Full rubber interior mats

Headliner inserts. These help with sound deadening and heat/cooling retention for the interior.

    Warn winch/synthetic rope

So far, I have driven this JL down the highway at 75 mph and it's smooth and drives great. Probably have 200 miles on it myself. Off-road I have some experience, but not anything too extreme. It all comes down to what you want to do and terrain that it's going to conquer. My friend was going to get a 3rd gen Tacoma for his lighter off-road rig. I talked him out of it for his uses. He would not have been happy with the performance. His GF is purchasing a new Bronco/Sasquatch option.

I'm also not a FJ fan. Blind spots, hard to get in/out, out of production, etc.

My wife drives 2018 Jeep Wrangler JLU unlimited sport s. About 62k miles on it. Has been reliable for the most part, only issue we have faced so far is random reboot of the radio when phone was connected to USB port.
When looking for the vehicle I was adamant on getting 3.5 ltr pentastar v6 rather than new turbo engines that had more markdowns on them.

    You will be fine.

Wow this is alot of info. I've never owned anything besides Toyota. Always have said I would never buy anything else. I was thinking 4runner but I like the straight front axle set up better. So hard to make a big decision. I guess best thing to do is go and rest drive one.

Yeah I have to agree. that's what I'm afraid off going to another vehicle and not liking it and having to go back. A good and well taken care off Fj is hard to find. The kne I have has 130k miles but in great body, frame and interior condition.

Went from a 2016 GX to Rubicon, wife’s choice. Personally I much prefer the GX and the V8 but my wife loves her Rubicon. We got the 2.0L because she works from home and hardly drives.

Seats are the most uncomfortable seats I’ve ever had since riding in my moms 90 4Runner. After a few hours you’ll need to get out and stretch. Steering is very vague, in bad weather (icy) it’s very disconcerting and not all confidence inspiring. Other than that I don’t have much complaints, it’s a jeep so road noise is elevated and interior space is limited but that’s all observable when test driving. My wife had a JK Sahara when we got married and I will say the Jk is a huge step up.

I live in California central valley so no crazy weather besides Hot Ass F***. I guess I'm gonna have to go take a few test drives or rent one for the weekend if possible.

Awwwww man...this makes me sad thinking of the FJ being sold/traded in. So much more can be done to it to make it your one of a kind ride. I think you will be bummed if you get rid of it honestly.

Another peace of advice is I don’t know what powertrain your thinking of getting, but I would stay clear of Jeep’s hybrid system. I think it’s only offered on the V6 now because they’ve had so much trouble with it.

If you want a good jeep, get an old LS swapped rock crawler and something to tow it with. If you get a Jeep as a daily, get something to tow it with.

Lmao. I was just looking at the value of the 2014 FJ and I'm up 12 grand to what I paid. I'm keeping this FJ now. They avg 32k to 40k for my 2014.

I honestly don't understand why Wranglers are so popular -- maybe it is the endless aftermarket mods. I had a Wrangler as a rental not too long ago -- after the guy in front of me refused it -- and felt like forward visibility was absolute hot trash. Maybe it works for shorter or fatter people or something. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Ive had a few JL rentals and despise them. I don't understand the jeep love either, nothing unique about them, one of the most unreliable vehicles out there, and they feel like ass imo haha

It's the Harley Davidson syndrome, they are a clan and people like the attention. I tried the Harley life but went back to riding real motorcycles until I sold them all and bought bicycles.
