It amazes me what some guys are capable of doing to their trucks w the help of sponsors. Other than obvious politics (it's who you know...), how do people get these sponsorships?

    Makes me incredibly envious lol

Gotta have something to offer the company. Exposure either through video (youtube, etc) appearances at events like SEMA or just being a well known builder who people want to imitate.

Yeah, pretty much what @bsktball55 said. It's all about what a company will see in return. Their investment into someones build needs to be justified by getting something in return, nothing is truly 'free'. They want to generate a buzz with a unique and badass truck that will help them get noticed and sell more product. Social media photos/videos and exposure by attending industry events goes a long way there.
Another thing is that it is unlikely to see a company sponsor an 'average' vehicle, they need to be decked out and over the top in most instances. Why would a company want to throw hundreds or thousands in parts to someones truck if it looks like every other lifted truck on the road. Once again, all about getting attention. In order to get a sponsor on board you'd typically need to plan out the build in advance, list the intended build plan with what parts from what companies you would hope to set the truck up with in order to show the intended direction and quality of the build, and then have some sort of written contract so that the sponsor feels safe in the sense that the rig they're sponsoring is the real deal and they wont send out a bunch of parts to never see them again or have the guy just fall off the face of the earth and not follow through with their obligations of attending shows/posting photos and videos etc.

What @Relentless said. It's all about what you can do for them. How you can promote their company. How you can increase their sales. How you can promote a certain product they want to an increase on sales on. How you can arrange successful truck meets. How you can get your truck to stand out from the rest.

Considering exploring this a little further if I trade this thing for the Inferno...

I think everyone can see that I'm willing to put together a bad ass truck ::wink, wink::

I don't know if you saw it, but some dude a while back put on a DB lift and wanted Sean to spread the word about his truck because he said it "deserved to be known." He then started insulting Spvrtan and the thread went to crap. Now everyone makes inside joke references to wanting their truck to be "known." I wasn't knocking you at all dude.

Your truck is more impressive, you're not a total D bag, and you are genuinely wanting to know. That guy was trouble from the minute he put his username in

I looked into the sponsorship route before I did my build. Most sponsors want you to provide a digital truck rendering of the vehicle prior. The renderings run $500 or more typically. I know Keg media is one of the most well known. Most companies don't give product away for free but will offer a discount. It's really about how much exposure they will get out of it. You also need to specify which truck shows you will attend with the vehicle. It's a lot of work for sure and it's definitely not free. Lol. A lot of the truck builds you see are customers who drop a ton of cash and the builders are using the clients vehicle for display. The customer in return gets a discount on the build. Most of the crazy Sema builds have $90k plus in them.

Im definitely not expecting anything to be free - more so looking for a business/build partner. Seems like a lot of these vendors lack exposure/representation in the north east, so who knows. I, however, am not going to be dropping 90k into my build haha.

Im not afraid to spend money, but I'm also not stupid.

Most of the guys on here know how to get the most out of their money. So dropping that much money is crazy if your doing most of the work yourself. Look up KEG Media though. I called several companies and most offered discount for a show truck with exposure. If you know of a less known company or product that's needs a marketing platform maybe that's a option for your sponsorship. Best of luck bud!
