Went to a local tire shop to get a flat fixed. When picking up the wheel I noticed a scratched in my wheel. Talked to the owner he said well is it a show truck? They were very rude about it and denied the whole time that it happened there. What would be your approach on handling this situation?

Sounds like they are not going to do anything for you. You would need to prove they did it. Local shop or part of a large chain?

If a large chain you can make complaint and run it up the chain. If a local owned small shop, they can be jerks if they want to and not much you can do about it unless you can prove they are at fault.

Dang man! I have this thing I do were before I drop it off to be serviced or have anything done to it I walk around the truck with the person I’m taking it too. Then before I leave I do the same thing. More than a few times I’ve had my front and rear bumper scraped pretty bad. That being said since I’ve started doing the walk around I haven’t had any issues. If I did and I got the response you did. I’m not sure what I would do. If it’s a big company you could always keep going up to the corporate level. A small shop you could just put them on blast online. I’m sure we all know what we would like to do though.

Yeah it’s a local shop family owned. My truck isn’t perfect and I can live with it I guess but just really unprofessional how they handled it. Like you said no way to prove it happened there

Same. Additionally, I'm known to take pics - e.g., if I'm having my dash taken out for something, I'll take pics of the headliner, interior, etc; if wheels, I'll take pics of rims, in case any damage, stains, etc. show up.

I did have this done to me once. My reply is usually something along the lines of "I can't make you fix it, but I CAN tell everyone I know via every form of media I know about the service I've received here today."

Variations of this have worked for me for anything from local tire shops to HP, Lenovo, etc.

    Is it a show truck?

    I would have replied with

    Do you like repeat business?

God help me if they had a company vehicle sitting in the parking lot…

Just take an afternoon off and sit in their parking lot and point it out to every customer that pulls up.
When they start seeing folks drive off they may change their tune.

I did that once at a tire shop that jacked up the carbon lip on my E55.
The goons that ripped it off taking it off the rack just threw it in the trunk. When I noticed it and came back in and asked them about they said it just fell off. (It was installed with 10 screws). I told them I wanted it replaced with a new one pronto and they refused.
So I sat in the parking lot and showed every car that pulled up. Some just shrugged and went inside, but a lot said thanks and took off.
I probably turned away 12 potential customers in about 2 hours.
They sat inside watching me and even came out and told me I was trespassing.
I just held up my receipt for the services they provided and told them the Sheriff would probably agree that I'm a paying customer trying to resolve an issue. They called the owner and he finally showed up and looked at the car and wrote me a check for $350 (after a quick Google search to verify cost for replacement). I figure it cost him anywhere from $1200 to potentially $10k in lost revenue for not just owning up to it from the start. He was not happy, but mostly with his staff for not calling him sooner.
