Agreed. They actually found a second chick doing it too. She has been arrested. I don't know about the Oregon/Cali border fire... but I imagine we aren't too far off the subject. These fires seem to spring up in a different poli demographic than the major towns. Not saying linked, but one could make a good assumption.

My friend that I’ve known for 50 years got a call last Sunday to evacuate (level 3) his home in the mountains near the Canadian border nw of Republic. He said he threw some crap in his truck and left. Not good. He has spent 20 + years building his house and shop.

Hopefully it misses his house. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah, I sure hope so. He was finally moving into the house from the shop after all these years. He said he saw flying ambers when he left. Not many trees near his house abut a lot of dry grass/weeds. Metal roofing might help.

It's been a hell of a summer for fires. Hopefully nothing ignites. Hopefully some rain starts coming soon.

It was supposed to rain two days ago, and I was looking forward to some relief. But the weather guessers were wrong.

We got a shower yesterday. I wouldn't call it rain. But it was better than nothing. Been relatively cool here last 2 days. Hopefully it showers more today. Will see.

Finally found the time for the rear diff mod, I still would like to find an inline desiccant filter to capture moisture.

I have my first service tomorrow at the dealer. What exactly does this complimentary Toyota service include?

Oil and filter change? Tire rotation? Anything else?

I am curious to see if I get hit up with the “We’d love to buy your truck…”

OK, what's the rear diff mod? Did a search and didn't come up with anything.

There is a vent threaded into the top of your rear diff, it helps with pressure changes due to heat.

The vent is replaced with a fitting, hose routed commonly to behind the tail light, and a new vent. This prevents water getting into the rear diff due to a bad vent fitting.

no oil change on 5k service. Only 10k. Unless you tell them to but then be prepared to either “use” your 10k service or pay extra for it depending on the dealer.

tire rotation, fluid checks, 100 something point inspection is basically it.

So basically they rotate the tires? What a crock of …

I am at only about 4K miles but I have done some towing so I am happy to pay for the oil change.

I plan on just keeping a maintenance book and documenting all my oil changes with receipts and notes etc.... I have never had good luck with dealership (or jiffy boob) oil changes.

Yeah, it is a joke. I think they are just trying to get the customer into a rhythm of coming to the dealership every 5k miles.

The dealership will do the 10k/20k service at anytime. I had them do it (for the oil change) at 1,500 miles on both my truck and Corolla.

Yup. And check for recalls. I use the Toyota care till it’s expired then do my own. Add a fumoto valve on the drain pain, switch to metal filter cap, and watch the fluids.

Going to switch to an Independent Toyota shop for other maintenance.

I have not done my own oil changes since I owned my Jeep like 15 years ago but I might start again. Or go back to the mechanic I had been using for the last 10 years or so. I actually trust him to do good work and not leave out fasteners on the skid plate, etc.

I was going to have Toyota do my oil changes until they told me the price. Was going to be over $80 if I remember correctly.

Crazy. Probably two thirds that at my local mechanic and he and his crew all have lots of experience. Having worked with dealerships in my past career I can’t say the same for many of the techs.

Maybe I'm weird, but doing oil changes etc... is like therapy to me. Spending time in the garage with the music on, maybe a cold one keeping me company. Doing it exactly right, giving it time to fully drain etc... and no mess under or on the vehicle.

I was quoted $110 for an oil change at my local dealer (45 min round trip drive). I can change the oil in that time and there is plenty of room to get my big frame under this truck.

I did my first at 2000 miles to remove engine wear (metal flakes in filter) and refilled with Toyota oil to maintain early conditioning. I might have the dealer do a few oil changes under ToyotaCare, but going forward on 5K intervals (towing, dirt roads), they’ll cost me $30-32 for Kirkland oil and Toyota filter, plus $10 for the six-pack of my choosing.
