Just visited a customer facility yesterday, they are hoarding EVERYTHING. They used to live by the JIT (just in time) method, but the owner has sworn that off. So, if they need 5,000 feet of cable, they order 100,000 feet so as to not be burned again. This further effs things up in the supply chain. Oh, and yes they even hoard TP!

You can bet most, if not all manufacturers will partially abandon JIT and begin keeping critical inventory and/or also require tier 1 vendors to maintain critical inventory.

The problem with this is most people/companies don't realize that you have to store this stuff under specific conditions so that it doesn't degrade, especially with unsealed electronics. I've already heard reports of vendors who were hoarding parts now can't sell any inventory because it's compromised.

Fascinating. Should I get the optional front or rear locker or do I need both?

Need? The Tundra for the last 14 years hasn't had a locker, I don't think you need them. This is all about wants.

Not a fan of the turbo V6. I still haven’t seen any MPG numbers. I don't think Toyota will have any problems selling the remaining 2021 they have in stock.

Ah yes the great TP shortage of 2020.

That event made me realize with no doubt that the movie Idiocracy was in fact a documentary not a comedy.

I still wonder at the logistics model the TP hoarders were operating on where they needed a 12 month supply of ass wipe, and probably only had 2 weeks of food at home.

We must learn from the great TP shortages, then we can understand the challenges vehicle manufacturers face.

In B.C. some dealerships are taking a $500 deposit to be "first" in line. Others are putting your name on a list depending on the dealership and how hungry they are to scrape up a potential future sale on a truck they know nothing about. Out of 5 sales guys maybe 1 (if I was lucky) was aware of what's been posted on the Toyota site. The rest are chasing RAV and Prius sales.

There is a constant battle with just in time manufacturing on the safety net. People want inventory to cover if something goes wrong. But inventory is "muda" or waste. Yes realistically you need some kind of safety stock....but the beauty of the system is it shows where your flaws in manufacturing are. You want extra inventory because your machine breaks or you have abnormal about of defects.....you need to be fixing those root causes, not covering it up with extra inventory.

In a perfect "lean" world things should be made one by one. If something goes wrong the whole line stops, your forced to fix the issue before you can continue. Your forced to have everything run "perfect".

But covid and one off very unpredictable situations should not mean you abandon a lean system just because one day we may have a world wide pandemic..... you dont plan for failure. You do it by the book, find your failures and then fix them. Your assumptions probably hold some truth though, people will certainly want to be thinking differently on how they handle inventory

Ha, and I thought it was only about not having money tied up in inventory and having that money available to work to make more money.

Some places charge tax on standing inventory, that's why some parts places with a nationwide presence keep almost all of their stock in one or two places, because those places don't charge inventory tax.

Probably unpopular opinion but dont love the look of the new Tundra (looks far to similar to new Chevy Silverado's imo). Also was sort of hoping for Toyota to introduce one of the first all-electric trucks building on original progress they made introducing the Prius. Just my thoughts :)

Just in time inventory and manufacturing only works if consumer consumption follows a predictable pattern and does not deviate more that 5-7% of projections and historical sales. Just in time inventory and manufacturing collapses when there is a 500% increase in demand in a short period of time. The perfect lean world you describe while not incorrect, it not possible for 99% of product consumers demand, we live in a I want it now world and manufacturers are having to adjust. The 1% of products that can be made with the one by one manufacturing you describe are bespoke products that the consumer has no problem waiting months or years for.

well i have stumbled in here never posted on anything before but can someone help me catch up in this class? I am TrimTab, you can call me Trim or Tab or just TrimTab. i know i am late to the party but give a guy a break From what i am gathering we have a new beast coming but is it really that much different? from what I’m gathering they have only made few worthy (subjective) changes.
    1) new front end design (chomps like a dragon)
    2) big window in the roof (great for yelling at the Stars for those oh s- -t moments)or maybe this could be a place to mount a camera for some high angle / birds eye truck porn
    3) bigger screen radio, app, tracking device (to distract drivers ),
    4) a new phone charger (geesh),
    5) a weaker engine that might get 5 more miles per gallon than the dependable V8,
    6) a knob for wheel control,
    7) a suspension system that other trucks offer..
Am i losing my mind more towing and payload we really do not know an from what i gather this is going to cost upwards of 10k more than a 2021. Are we all insane to be waiting for this beast? take it from the TrimTab go out now and place your order for the 2021 something just doesn’t add up

    A bunch
Pretty much everything is being improved upon. Better engine (more power and better fuel efficiency), most likely 2 engine choices, new frame structure, new suspension, and lots of refinement in interior. Is it going to be light years better than the 2007 Tundra, nope, trucks now are so good and there's not much room to be game changing.

I saw a post a while back comparing the 06 to 07 price change and it was around 10k. The base raptor just jumped 10k with a lot less changes. So I wouldn't be surprised
