The original plan was NYC auto show, but since that's cancelled, they are doing a Vegas dealer convention in September, I can't recall exact date but I'll look it up tomorrow.

Full production begin within last 2 weeks of October, delivery should begin November.

If you bought a new F150 today, it might last until the ‘22 Tundra is released. No promises though. :boink:

Who says that's the "detail" for it? Maybe they weren't sending special messages and "it's all in the details" is just marketing speak for "we're putting convenient details like wireless charging."

I dont know anything about like when toyota would release new info. Im just supporting a supplier, so we just know when toyota needs parts shipped to them, and there is like different stages of that...

So, aside from semiconductor chips, these days, how much of the supply chain is still affected? I know there have been shipping and logistics issues, staffing issues, etc. Just wondering if it is getting any better yet?

Negative. Things in the supply chain are not getting any better. My office has had an A/C unit down for 3 weeks because they can't locate a fan belt. We manufacture small gear boxes and I'll tell you that getting raw steel for the shafts and the gears is the worst it has ever been. Ductile and grey iron coming from China and Mexico seem to be just fine though.

    Terrible.
I work in electronics assemblies manufacturing and we are running into very long lead times on many things, even stuff like common connectors are 3 month lead times these days.

Does anyone know what the problems are? Is it shipping, shipping containers, plants not running overseas? Maybe earlier shutdowns still have backed up orders they haven't been able to catch up on? There has to be some reason everything is all screwed up.

Additionally, for items from the USA, I suspect there's staffing issues that have reduced capacity.

You can get free government money to not be at work.

Any thing that ships into the US is delayed and stuck at port, then it is stuck on the rail, then it is stuck trying to find a driver to pick it up. Big retailers like Walmart, Etc, that ship lots of goods from overseas are locking up the containers and out-bidding others to even get the stuff on the water. It goes like this...Walmart "we need to ship 20 containers of goods". Freight broker..."we don't have 20 open containers". Walmart "we will give you double the container rate to offload someone else's stuff and put ours on it". Freight broker " your stuff is on the way".....

Thats just one of the overseas goods issues. Domestic issues involve, raw material shortage due to the container issue, driver shortage, rail back up, port back up...labor shortages are a huge issue in domestic manufacturing, and the other issue is consumption...people are consuming goods at a rate never seen before. We manufacture outdoor recreation equipment and we can print money right now and cannot make it quickly enough. Add in the resin (plastic) shortage and you have a perfect storm.

It will not get better anytime soon, the only thing that will help, is if consumption drops by a lot...

On the RR side of the equation I can confirm that my employer is just now trying to recall all the train crews they laid off last year. It’s not going well.

Turns out when you lay people off at the start of a pandemic, it pisses them off and they don’t come back.

Same for equipment shortages. They laid up a bunch of beat trash locomotives. They’re trying to put them back in service and the engines are still beat trash, if not worse.

US RR’s are not capable of absorbing traffic growth right now. The past decade they’ve spent every waking hour cutting costs chasing operating ratios. Now there is no resiliency in the system and it is melting down.

Truthfully your game plan is very financially sound and on most vehicles I would agree that CPO is the way to go. But unfortunately I just don’t trust CPO trucks. Trucks and especially full size pickups have a tendency to be over used WHEN they are used. Meaning they look and run beautiful but they were beat up (towing/off roading/young owner). Statistically speaking your chances of buying an abused Tundra is much greater than buying an abused Camry. I have purchased many CPO cars/CUVs and some we’re definitely used harder than others. Just some friendly input for you…

I'm all for reducing/eliminating the stimulus and the I'm glad states are shutting off the free money faucet where unemployment benefits are concerned. However, the ones that did that saw NO measurable increase in workers returning to work.

Well, supposedly the 'rona is killing a bunch of people, so any day now we'll have less consumption and less traffic.

Yeah, we're in electronic components here, mostly copper and ferrous metals. We are seeing several month up to a year lead time on materials. It's insane. The main issue being capacity to produce, we've actually run into vendors that want a kickback to get capacity. Fuckers making it worse.

Honestly though, I think the big issue (my opinion) is that everyone is scrambling to order whatever they can from whatever vendor they have on the books. We have orders out multiple years now and it wouldn't surprise me if customers are double ordering and willing to abandon whoever is last to get them their product. Then we are put in the position "do I sue my own customer?" Ugh. The short of the long is that I think everyone is just piling on orders and honestly making production worse. We have customers that sniffed around us years ago coming and asking for product... Price too high? Nobody cares. Prices are increasing everywhere and therefor everyone is ordering to get the "now" price before it goes up more.

It's a really bad situation and at the same time, some of the busiest most lucrative times we've had in our industry. I'm talking monthly orders in excess of 40% of last years total sales. If we could ship it, I'm sure our owner would retire tomorrow.
