Rear fender prerunner cut

I want to cut my rear fenders at a angle but don’t know how to measure and plane and what to use to cut please help

 

This guy does a ton of them. I’m sure you can follow his Instagram and get an idea. He uses a grinder. If you are in Cali, just hit him up to do it.

from eyeballing it it looks like 0 to 5-6 inches. I’m pretty sure he makes the bumper first and cuts up to it.

look at the second link. The rear fender might have supports or bolts he stays away from.

You sir need a friend who has some experience with this, or general sheet metal fab. Not knowing any of the components involved is a recipe for disaster. The beds are not that easy to come by if you mess it up. Unlike a haircut gone wrong, this will not grow back. Good luck with this and send pics. We like pics.

 

Tape first before you cut to get an idea of what it will look like.
Check how it lines up on both sides and with whatever bumper you have.

Also, check wheel clearance if you are keeping or adding any type of mud flaps.
You will kick up rocks and stuff while driving so you should consider this.

Look at forums with what suspension setup you have or want to run one day.

after you're sure then make the cuts.

for me the first cut is the most worrisome, after that, you're committed.

I just did mine last week



Use painters tape, take photos of both sides. Flip one photo to mirror the other.

I used a large die grinder for the cut and a smaller die grinder with flap disk to clean imperfections and burrs.

 

Man… I don’t know how you guys cut into the truck like that. My hats off to you.

Great job on the layout and cut. Like that it's not just a straight line to the back, has that little straight section before the bumper. What did you do for the touch up paint to seal the fresh cuts?

 

Ultimately it's just a hunk of metal that moves. We give a lot of importance to things that don't matter. Especially possessions. If you're biggest concern is resale, don't mod your truck. Otherwise, make it your own and don't sweat the small stuff. Life is too short to worry about a truck.

 

EXACTLY. I've heard many a friend say similar about their houses. They'll go the whole period of ownership without updating it, "It's fine as it is, but man XYZ would be nice". One day they decide to list either because they want to look for or they've found another house they want. So they make the necessary modifications to the home to improve resale before putting it on the market, only to find, "Crap! I wish I'd have done this years ago, I actually really like it now!"

If you like it, do it. If you want it, make it happen. If you can't trust yourself to do it, pay a qualified person to do it for you. Carpe diem.

I understand the hesitance to modify, but at the end of the day, as long as it's safe, insurance won't deny you coverage over it, and you like the way it looks, go for it. You paid for the thing, do what you want with it.

 

Bingo. We had new cabinets installed in our house last week and new quarts countertops are being installed today. Looks lovely already!

 

I used the clear coat that’s attach to a touch up paint pen I had laying around.

 

Thats a smart move. Is there some kind of lining on there? Hard to tell on my phone but looks like you applied some sort of black trim on as a cap.

 

It’s edge trim you can find them on Amazon. SS Built was kind enough to supply them with the rear bumper.
