Have to agree with you on a Crewmax with 6.5' bed. They can be a PITA the navigate and the turning radius is stupid. Trying to keep a decent payload in a 1/2 ton with a Crewmax style cab and 6.5' bed isn't realistic and many should likely be looking for a 3/4 or 1 ton at that point.
I had the latest gen F150 Supercrew with a 5.5' bed and would have gladly sacrificed 4-5 inches or so in the back of the cab for that in the box so a person could fit a dirt bike or fishing rods in without cramming everything in on a 45 degree angle.
Many would probably tell me to go with the extra cab but I find the designs on most to either look weird (no offense to Tundra owners!) or have some stupid suicide door setup. My 3rd gen Ram 1 ton extra cab seemed to have the best cab to box ratio IMHO.

I'm like the only guy who likes to cram big truck in small places?!?
I drive F-550/650 bucket trucks in Seattle and parallel park those, park 'em in parking lots (famously small here in Seattle) no problem.
My wife always wonders why we take our current Crew Cab 1/2 ton to places with tiny parking spots instead of one of our cars, it's because I literally enjoy the challenge.

But, then again, my truck is older and dinged-up, scratched up, so I could care less if it gets rubbed up on by another car/shopping cart. I most likely won't want to do these things with a new +$60K truck!

The other day I dragged my boat + trailer combo (3000 lbs) to the ramp with a 2021 Taco. Payload is rated at 900 lbs yet the tow capacity is around 6500. It towed everything ok in the power department but didn't even come close to being in the same league as a modern 1/2 ton. If a person wanted to do this on a regular basis I'd go with airbags or helpers of some kind. The sag was worse than my GF's Honda pilot. Towing close to it's rated capacity would be FKN stupid IMHO not to mention the payload would borderline with tongue weight and a driver...

Torn on holding out for a 2022 as a '21 would just do what I need leaving little room for extra weight and there arer a coiuple of dealres willing to make a deal by October when the last Tundra's arrive.

500 extra pounds of payload would be perfect although can or will it happen is the question for 2022. After my headaches with the 3.5 Ecocrap I'm a little gun shy of too much shit in the motor bay that will eventually cause issues if not well engineered and tested long term like the 5.7.

If they could offer a Platinum trim level 4x4 CC with a 6.5' bed that had 1,800-2,000 lbs of payload then it would be a game changer......I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Every manufacturer advertises high payload capability, but what they don't advertise is that it's for a 2WD stripped down truck that's not typically purchased.....

Anything north of 1,500 lbs in a 5.5’ bed would be enough for me. Entirely possible considering that’s only 315 lbs more than the current Platinum 4x4 CC and the new LC 300 on the same platform is 440 lbs lighter.

Not that I care about that ugly ass F-150 looking 2022, but the last I heard is that the reveal is in Las Vegas on Sept 16th or 19th. We won't see it on the lots for a while. There are still 21's that haven't come in yet.

    A bunch
Think most want it to be GM style - removable pieces (doors, hood, tailgate) are aluminum, while 1/4 panels stay steel, and a composite bed. 1/4 panels being steel is a big plus because it's much easier to repair. My current work truck F150 has 2 tiny dents on the tailgate (from backing into a manlift, not a common issue lol) - would be super easy to repair if it was steel, but since it's aluminum they're going to just replace the entire tailgate; 2 separate quotes from Ford and local shop both came to that conclusion.

Nothing has come from Toyota about it as of yet

Its usually much earlier for info release and full reveal though, at least based off my memory. Toyota usually started releasing next MY info in February on January and then started releasing Pro info in the late spring. Toyota is pretty slow or late on this one, probably due to the issues with production being delayed. I have a feeling they'll take forever to actually start showing up in real volume.

Your correct on build timelines though, September is the Tacoma and Tundra MY cycle typically. 4Runners a bit later like October-November. Times are different though.

I would go along with that. 1800 payload left on a maxed out option model would be nice. 4 adult males 800-1000 pounds, 500-600# on the hitch for a 5000-6000# trailer, and 100-200# of stuff in the bed.

They already make that truck. It’s called a Ram 2500 Limited with a Cummins. Payload of 1,880lbs and all the high end trim stuff you could ever want :D

Just loaded 1500# in my Tundra towing a car carrier and 2020 Mustang, and moved/drove 500 miles. Shrugged it off like nothing and averaged 17.5MPG and 70 mph on the highway.

also they usually reveal new models during the chicago auto show (this was a change as it use to be in january). trucks are usually revealed during the texas state fair (someone correct me if i am wrong), but i am suspecting due to covid they may have pushed it to the north american international auto show in september.

Anyone have any luck getting a dealer to accept a deposit on the new 2022 Tundra? I have never done a pre-order deposit on an unreleased vehicle before. I was wondering how much do they normally ask for? Also do you normally have to specify trim level you want when putting a deposit or can you decide later on?

I continue to have the long crank no start issue with my 2021 sierra AT4 3.0 Duramax, GM continues to ignore it, and I would like to get out of this thing ASAP.

Nobody even knows what trims will be available, so that isn't something that you can specify. You can tell them what equivalent trim you would like, and if they get an allocation for something similar you might be able to reserve your spot with a deposit. Deposit amounts vary. I would expect $500 minimum, but wouldn't be surprised if they ask for $1000. If they try to say it's a non refundable deposit so you would have to transfer it to a different vehicle on the lot, walk away. Only do a fully refundable deposit, get a receipt, and read EVERYTHING if you sign for anything.
