Sounds like a fucking engineer. "What do you mean water can't run uphill? All my calculations show it can!'

Power outages...storm took out the power from 3:30 last night until 7am. I know that's nothing compared to what many others go through with outages, but they all suck.

Trust me dude, farmers use this stuff. Mix like a couple of ounces to a gal. When we moved to the new house we were overun with fire ants, couldn't walk out back without getting ate up. Hired a guy who had a AG sprayer he could tow behind his lawn tractor to mix it up and spray the entire 1.2acers. Within a week they were gone. I used it in a gal sprayer at my old house with same results. For the big ant hills you can poor this stuff straight on the mound, just a drizzle.

that consumer stuff you get from lowes is made for you to come back and get more. This stuff is industrial grade, pest control uses it.

For $26.00 what do you have to lose?

When kitchen faucets have the supply lines built in. No idea why they like doing that shit. It NEVER reaches the angle stop and I always have to go find some 3/8" nipples and use supply lines anyway, then you end up with a fawking mess and an extra 4 opportunities for leakage.

When I get messages or calls from our customer care group that play out like this:

Care: Are we having problems in Such and Such area?
Me: Problems with what? Calls? Data? Landline? Internet? What kind of problems? For what systems?
    Care: Data.
Me: I'll start looking, but it'd help if I knew what kind of issue. Is it slow data? Is data down?
    Sometime later
Me: Well, I've dug and checked around, and I don't see any alarms or errors. How many calls are you guys getting on this issue?
Care: Just one, but the customer says blah blah blah
Me: If we had an outage or system failure there would be more than one customer calling in. A single customer is likely a device issue, or MAYBE a translations/routing issue.

Drives me up the wall. Vague questions with no helpful info on where to look and asking if we have outages in whole areas. Makes me snap to and spike the blood pressure thinking SHTF. I'm thinking "It's go time!" because I foolishly think they're communicating clearly. Nope. They get panicky and scream "Fire! Fire! Fire!" over ONE call.:mad::mad:

Oh, the "it's not my job" punt BS kills me. I like the group I work with. When something gets dropped in our lap, we don't punt it until we can reasonably show it's not our baby. Other departments and groups.... they'll punt it back and forth for a week when all it would take is a little bit of digging to see if they can do anything with it. Pisses me off.

    Being a cheap bastard.

I grew up pretty poor, so doing things myself was the only option when it came to things like fixing my mom's house and later buying/fixing my own car. That has ingrained in me a mindset of knowing the material costs and the labor time to get any job done.

Fast forward, I'm 39 these days and still stuck with the mentality of "you want how much to do that??? No thanks, I can do it". Even when I know I have no time to do "it".

I need my fascia boards painted in front of my house. Got 3 estimates, cheap end is $800 high end is $1500. I am a cheap bastard and was expecting the ballpark of $600. There isn't much to it, biggest problem is there are boards way too high for my ladder to reach. I am a cheap bastard and for now I will have to sand/primer/paint the stuff I can reach myself because that will cost me max $100 to do.

Something that might help you with this mentality is a subtle shift in perspective. You see it as overpriced because it will only "cost you max $100 to do."

That's just your material cost. You need to account for your time/labor as well in that calculation. Here's how you start breaking that cheap bastard mentality.
    Steps to follow:
    1. How long will it take you to do the job? Overestimate this by a minimum of 25%, so that it helps account for hiccups.
    2. How much do you make an hour at work? Slow down, don't start the math yet, because that's not the number you're going to use.
    3. Realize that the time you are putting into this job is YOUR time, so it needs to be assigned the proper value. For work you agree to your hourly wage, but if they want YOUR time they have to pay OT. What's your OT rate? Time and a half? Double Time? This is the MINIMUM you have agreed that your personal time is worth.
    4. Using the minimum of 1.25 x your estimated job time and your OT rate you can see what the job ACTUALLY costs you.
Using this, you are spending way more than $100 to do the job yourself.

@50 Buck thats how I try to look at moat things. The trouble with that is I know if I sacrifice some TV watching time that is turning unproductive hours into productive time. I spend about 2 hours a night watching TV, its my wind down period. I can shift around to spend 2 hours per day working on this (say 5pm to 7pm) then go have dinner and do my overtime work. I figure I can handle it all in 4 or 5 days max doing it that way.

Love this. People tell me I am stupid for having Toyota change my oil. Well in the time that it takes me to do it I most likely would have made 100X as much money than it cost Toyota to do it. Time is literally money. I know this is the opposite of cheap but it still applies
