The audio with android car play or Apple is sub par, it all seems to connect via Bluetooth. I tried using the USB with no Bluetooth but could not get it to work . I'm coming from a infiniti with bpse system and it is so much better but I use an aux cord in that car. What are my options of better sound . I dont get the USB if it still requires Bluetooth to play . Thanks.

Plug your phone into the USB port under the AC controls closest to you (the driver). I think on an iPhone you have CarPlay preferences you can set (connecting even when phone is locked, etc). CarPlay fires up automatically every time I plug the phone in to that port. The audio quality is far better than over Bluetooth. It’s not incredible, mind you, but it’s much better.

Sounds like you didn’t actually set up Android auto or CarPlay then. Did it actually switch over to the AA interface (looks like android on your head unit) or CP interface (apple icons on the head unit)?
Mine connects only via the USB cable and is a high-speed connection that is much better than Bluetooth. As stated above, still not incredible, but with some tweaking I’ve gotten it to where I’m fine with it and don’t need to spend $1500 to make it better right now.

Audio settings are specific to each source on the head unit, so you need to have the audio source hooked up and do the settings in the specific source (android, carplay, etc.)
I pushed the “equalizer” (not that you can really call it that) up two notches for treble and mid, and three notches for bass.
For me, and my taste of music, the volume at about 20 in the morning when I’m still waking up is good. I’ll crank to about 30-35 on the drive home. I don’t put the windows down at highway speeds very often, but if I do I don’t usually worry about listening to music.

I’m certainly no audiophile or car stereo expert. But this is enough for me to focus on other things

Does the tundra system support wireless CarPlay? Thought you had to plug it in

There is no fixing what is wrong with the factory sound systems. I had a 2007 Camry that was WAY WAY higher quality sound, and much louder.

You will simply need to replace items if you enjoy listening to music. It can be done, starting around $1k, and everything will be reversible if you wish. In my attic, carefully boxed, are the amp, bracket, and door speakers. Just replace the amp with a 5-ch, add a sub, and change the door speakers. Add sound deadening if you like ($100-$300).

Lots of threads in the audio forum in Tundra Garage forums offer step by step, and most are very similar.

When you finally buckle on this, your best contact will be @james@tech12volts

Ok so I found a small work around definitely is louder , by using a regular USB thumb drive with music on it .
