Unfortunately the 2 private schools I already "fell for" are in Nashville. Good schools, the people I contacted were super friendly. Wife is a nurse, so she can work anywhere. I am not looking forward to the housing market BS again though. Thats why we purchased a new house here, no bidding that way. Might have to do the same thing again out there.

I think Knoxville is starting to experience what Nashville went through 10 years ago. People are moving here from all over the country. I'm really curious how word got out about Knoxville because we definitely don't have the allure that Nashville does. I'm excited to see what the next decade brings.

It is on my list, but not the #1, obviously. Looking at the job market there too has me hesitant on Knoxville. But, I am also coming from a job I have had for 19 years without having to worry about getting paid.

What industry are you in? It's still a small city so the job market isn't going to be as promising as other cities. I'm in supply chain and it's not a great market for me.

Honestly, don't have one yet. 19 years doing the same things, I'm looking for something outside aircraft. Ive done supply chain, logistics, test, evaluation, acquisition, and aircraft maintenance. Best way to describe current position is Operations Manager

My ex lives in Murfreesboro. She's helping raise my two granddaughters. I actually get along better with her now than when we were married. Ha! She sends me a lot of pics from Murfreesboro and surrounding area. Quite nice. Decent schools. Home prices there are fairly reasonable. Might want to check out Murfreesboro area??

Been looking in Blount, Loudon, and Monroe County area for a year and a half now. Be ready to overbid and forego inspections…if you’re ok with that.
My agent and banker are both in the business 25 years each. Both have said they have NEVER seen anything like it. Houses are being bought online…sight unseen. Some cases, people are overbidding $20k-$100,000 over asking, of course depending on what your looking for.
Apartment complexes are full of folks from East Coast, West coast, and upper mid west. One brand new apartment complex has one building full of people from Cali, Oregon, and Washington. The rental agent said that one of the new buildings, still under construction, was already full. The traffic in Maryville has exploded and ai e been visiting the area, because of the mountains, since about 2011.
Have a few friends, who are native Tennessee, and they can’t believe the explosion of growth.
Has me rethinking the move there with all of the influx to the state.
Good Luck to you and yours…

Welcome to the Cali craze. It is absolutely nuts out here too, and I dislike it. We will likely build a house in one of the new communities to try to avoid some of the over priced BS that is going on... But unfortunately it seems like every large community in the country is well overpriced for what it should be. Denver area, CO Springs, Little Rock, Cheyenne, anywhere that has a decent break is just terrible. If I didn't have kids that needed school, I would sell this place and travel for a year until the market breaks.

I guess it’s like that everywhere.

Same boat here…no kids. I too thought about traveling, really would like to see Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas.

    Good Luck!

Nashville is a mess! And you don't want to work for such a liberal admin that seemingly despises the police and fire dept. Please trust me on this. And make sure to look at greatschools.org. Search metro Nashville and look at the school ratings. It's atrocious! If you must, look first at Wilson(Mt. Juliet), Sumner(Hendersonville) and Robertson(White House, Greenbrier) counties. They have reasonable commutes and nice communities.

I live in Robertson county and have lived work all around Nashville for the past 35 years and the best advise I can give you is to go east... east TN. There is so much to love about east TN. but I don't have the time. Mountains, small towns, less crime, better schools, friendly people. Between Cookeville and the TN. NC. border is gorgeous. Either way I hope you find what you're looking for.

So we went to Tennessee in September and we liked it. We stayed closer to Cookeville (which we really liked) but there isn’t much out there for me as far as work. We checked out murfreesboro and we liked that area as it was similar to home. I didn’t end up going on a ride along with Nashville PD like I planned. A friend of mine from home is now working for Nashville Metro at the moment and Isn’t the happiest.

I am looking to go on a ride along with Franklin PD, Lebanon PD and Murfreesboro PD in April to get a better idea of where to work. As far as living, we are liking the houses and areas of Lebanon, murphreesboro, Mt Juliet and the surrounding areas. Any other areas close to those we should check out?

So fast forward almost a year, I did my ride along came out two times since this post, we are in contract to sell our house currently, and we are in contract to buy a new house. We found a new build in Murfreesboro and my start date is February 13. We’re making the move and we are super excited to see what comes forth. It feels like a huge leap of faith.

Wonderful. You'll enjoy Murfreesboro. And Franklin. And Nashville. Stay out of LaVergne and out of Antioch and you'll be O.K.

That’s funny. We were going to look at a place in La Vergne and we’re steered away by a friend. He said the exact thing about there any Antioch.
