Of course, there’s lots of other space over there in that area that can be changed.

 

The International Chili Society does allow beans in sanctioned cook offs now but judged separately. Traditionally, chili was always "no beans allowed" in cook offs although you will be seeing more and more cook offs with both categories. The problem with most crappy canned chili with beans is it's mostly beans and crappy canned beanless chili is a little meat with textured soy "protein". Good stuff....

We need an official Mafia chili. Beans or no beans...

We have to produce quite a bit of natural gas to keep this thread operational.

 

I would like to make my position known. I enjoy both with and without beans. I do feel the with bean chili has to have some bomb flavors to keep me because they usually lack the amount of meat the non bean chili has.

 

Now that this is settled science......what beans or combination is desirable??? The dilemma of the day......along with how many vent rings sold...

I can do crushed tomatoes or even tomato paste. What I do not want is a spoon full of just tomato. Some people slice them like oranges and drop them in. Savages.

however, I do something that will be controversial and some will scoff at, but don’t knock it til you try it.

I add a little cinnamon to my chili.

 

I've heard of this. Didn't really think about it until I went to a chili cook-off put on by the local fire departments. Tasted the hottest chili I've ever had and with that eternal burn you could taste the aftertaste of cinnamon. It was fantastic

I'm a puss and don't like hot stuff. My taste buds quit functioning if stuff is much hotter than a jalapeno, so anything beyond that is just miserable for me. I am ok with heat as long as it has good flavor, but hot just to be hot isn't something I enjoy.

 

All beans should be rinsed IMO. And they are just filler for me, but necessary. Celery is always in my chili as well as habanero.

 

Heat for heats sake is pointless.
Heat with flavor should be the point.

Anyone can make chili hot.
The good ones make hot chili good.

My buddy and I won the First Annual Central Texas AMVETS Post 115 Chili Cook-off competition. We fought like hell to allow beans and we ended up taking 1st Place.

I can understand this. I can dig a rollercoaster, I like a good jalapeno burger or the like, but not a fan of uber hot stuff, not big on sad movies, but if I'm down as f*** I can throw on music that drags barbwire through my bones. I can totally understand the benign masochism from that link.

I guess I should clarify, I'm not opposed to spicy food if it's got flavor, but when it tastes like battery acid is the main ingredient and my ass is gonna melt when it's finished with me.... Nope. I'll pass.
