I hear ya ... I thought the same thing when I bought my Rubicon ... $15k+ later. lol

I would most likely do a small lift, 33-35" tires, front/rear bumpers, rear rack system, and winch.

I suspect the TRD Pro might take 35”s with no lift at all. I have never bothered to deviate from factory tire size though. My off road shenanigans have never gotten to the point I needed taller tires than the 32”s on my Tundra. My area of operations is mostly going to provide logging roads/trails, US Forest Service roads, National grass lands, etc. and the stock height has not posed an issue yet.

Tires get beat up from all the rocks though, particularly up in the hills in a unit I used to hunt in. Nothing beats seeing not one single mature buck for the species you have a tag for, while seeing really nice bucks of the other species, and bull elk, even a herd of bighorn sheep with a full curl ram (with broomed off tips!)…. and shredding a tire sidewall just after sunset with bad weather rolling in. That particular trip I was with a buddy in his Duramax. What a pain in the ass jacking up the front end of that heavy sumbitch in the dark, stacking up rocks to put the bottle jack on to get enough clearance to work. While it’s snowing to beat hell.

That’s great in the US but up here if I buy a vehicle out of province I have to pay both provincial taxes . The GST wouldn’t have to be paid twice though .

Here, tax is paid when you buy the truck at the dealership. It’s a pair of small fees ($36 and $42 I believe) for the city and county and then 7% vehicle sales tax in my county. Plus I always pay off whatever I finance early to keep from paying them interest income over the loan term. (It’s a small victory.) So I stick with focusing on OTD.

Registration at the county clerk is a flat $94 now (or something like that) for any personal vehicle, and that includes a required emissions test.

On doing a bit more research, I am leaning toward it being state by state thing about when you have to pay the taxes. Who knew? Not I, apparently. You still only have to pay taxes for where you live, but buying out of state you might have to pay them up front and the dealer will have to mail the funds to your local tax location. So, while OTD is technically going to vary state to state, for any kind of comparison to anyone else's deal it is always going to be easier to not include taxes or tags. They vary so widely by area that it could make a great deal on a vehicles price look mediocre if it was always included.

In my state, sales tax is collected by the dealer.
If you buy a car private party, the tax is collected at the time of registration

This makes perfect sense…all five cars that I have bought brand new were purchased in the state of NJ. All were bought while I was living in NY.

Dude, this is embarrassing. 0.86 * 100 = 86. They paid 86% of the sticker price.

    Another way, 50790*0.86 = 43679.4

Funny enough, all the new vehicles I've ever purchased were bought in Utah, and I always paid the taxes when I went to do the registration.

Edit: Wait, I forgot! I did buy one here in Wyoming, and I still paid the taxes with registration after the purchase.

Also, move to New Hampshire , no tax on vehicles when you purchase, but you do pay more to register. No income tax if you live and work in state, otherwise you pay the income tax to the state you work in for the days you worked there. Luckily for me I work from home 3-4 days a week and only pay income tax to Massachusetts on those 1-2 days a week.

Just don't ask about property taxes.

Yes, you pay a small use tax on the first $1,600.00 which comes out to $80.00.

Then you owe 7% on purchase price. If you have a trade, that will be credited to purchase to reduce the amount of sales tax paid, obviously you know this!

re: Taxes, You ain't seen nothing yet, till you jump to the border just west of you - (Vermont!) 6% on sales price, then there's a $50/yr tax for inspection, and then there's high property taxes, income taxes, they've taxed the dirt for home and garden places. there have been discussions about taxing rainwater, probably air too...

I will probably never live in Vermont, I grew up across the lake near Plattsburgh, NY. My retirement will probably be to Maine where I will have to pay sales tax on my vehicles when I register them the first time, even though I already own them.

Toyota team if you're reading this thread... release more pictures NOW, or half the new buyers are going to be starting fights with the sales folks on OTD pricing and taxes for the first 6 mo of this trucks launch!

I am going to do that anyway.

Any chance you would be willing to start a thread and share strategies? I've been a member on Tundras and non Tundra owner for quite some time and I see a change nearing. I feel like I have a decent idea how to go about dealing with the sales team but its probably much like how I think I'm the best driver on the road.

What’s the synopsis on bed length for the 22? Those spy shots look like a crew max with a 6.5?

In Missouri you pay taxes when you register it and then every year after. I think I paid about $3,000 in sales tax when I bought my truck and now it's about 700 a year in personal property taxes and then another $85 or so for a 2 year license.
