Do you think I can sell my Tundra for more if I paint the fender to match?

Do you think I can sell my Tundra for more, if I paint the fender to match, or close to matching color?

I bought a used white fender for my black Tundra.

I have been debating on whether I should give it a cheap, dupli-color rattle can paint job, with a couple clear coats.

I have been putting some money into, but I can't afford to have some shop paint it. And the truck has some dents and scratches all over. It does have a drop bracket lift kit, and aftermarket tires on a good note.

Wondering if I should just leave the fender white, and have the next owner make it match.

leave it as it or do the job right, so it looks as good as the rest of the truck. Don't think a rattle paint job is going to get you any more for the truck. But if the paint is done correctly, no one may know the fender has been replaced and it could help with sale

Had a tailgate and ARE topper recently painted….TG $200, ARE $400….let’s say fender is in between….you’d have better chance selling if painted….IMHO !

Personally, I’d paint it all white, it’d go faster than black

This, a proper paint job might help resale, a crappy rattle can job won’t, might even degrade it.

Still trying to figure out if this is a troll question or not.

Anything you do to make something look most cohesive and uniform at a 10-20ft glance before sale is virtually always going to pay out in dividends.

    Good example.

I found a 1990s touring bike at the thrift store two weeks ago. $23. Covered in filth. I happened to know it was worth about $140 with a 20 minute detail, add another 60-80 if fine-tuned. That's the kind of hourly rate I like. I spent an extra 25 minutes re-lubing anything with loose bearings, dialing in the cables.

I sold it on Tuesday for $210, it was listed for less than 48 hours. 1 hour of super-easy work netted me $183 (subtracting tax also). I probably spent as much time taking nice photos and creating the ad for it as I did greasing, tuning and washing.

Main reason it sold that quick? It was priced well, all the colors matched, it was cleaned with a fine tooth comb.

Just do it. Stop talking and wondering about it. Surely you have a can of black spraypaint and some sandpaper to scuff the panel?

It always amazes me when I see used items on CL, Ebay or where ever that are dirty, dusty or in need of a very minor repair. Are people just that lazy or stupid...or both? Heck when I sell something as simple as a Golf Driver, I always put a new grip on it, remove any old stickers, and give the the crown a quick coat of wax to make it shine. Nine times out of ten it ends up being a quick sell, higher than I expected, or both.

You didn’t post pictures, so we’re guessing what it looks like. I’m in the camp that says rattle can it, do the best you can and move forward. It’s a 16 year old truck which, according to you, has been used and has scratches and dings. Don’t over think it. Buyers are gonna focus on the engine and drive train. Leaving it white just distracts their attention

I think many these days think that selling is some favor they are doing for the buyer and not work which is what it has always been and should be?

I am also blown away by the condition of things for sale and even more by the descriptions which make you wonder if the seller is going to let a buyer even see the dirty piece of crap before buying it?

The idea of Porch Pickup is my latest this way,WTAF?

Good example. This 4R. If this person pulled out a can of flat black rustoleum, lightly sanded and sprayed that hitch, then took a flat razor, some adhesive remover and removed those window and front bumper stickers then washed this thing, I get they could get another $300-500 out of it. 1hr or less time. You just need to give two shits enough about it to act.

My wife and I buy houses this way. We have purchased three to date. All were “distressed” properties that turned out to generally not need much more than a good deep clean, better paint inside, and some brighter light bulbs. We’ve made out ok on the subsequent sales :D

Paid $150 a panel for loose car parts recently for some very nice paint work from a body shop. Take the fender off, take it to a body shop and have them spray it. Black is common, something really close that's already in the gun will be a cheap proposition.

And there's several companies online that sell pre-painted parts. This is just one of those that does a good job, albeit it's a little more than others: http://www.ebaystores.com/paintapart

That's tuff decision and one that depends on buyer. I would be more cautious if fresh paint thinking what else is being hidden and would look the truck over very closely, whereas if not painted, would think this is what I'm getting and can see it. We all have opinions.

I'll give you $1,000 for it.
Oh, and you don't need to clearcoat. Black and white used single-stage paints.

@CNE0207 Unfortunately, I would have to drive about 3 hours to get to the nearest Maaco.

Properly painted, it would be prepped and the adjacent hood and door would be painted to blend it in with the rest of the truck. I'm not sure if you're willing to go that route.

Maaco with their one stage paint sticks out like a sore thumb IMO. I guess it'll attract more buyers, but it won't get you much more in value if that's what you're looking for IMO.

If you do decide to do it, keep a photo of the "before" so if anyone says anything about the difference in shade, you can show them it's not a repair with filler material in it.
