I'll jump in on this one. I'm dead ass in the middle of this great nation of ours and we have more variety of authentic foods than most places we vacation at. Grizzly generally attack to protect cubs, defend a kill or get you out of the territory. Once they decide you're no longer a threat, they usually bugger off. That's why advice for grizzly attacks is to play dead. So yeah, to go out in a blaze of glory you want to fight a grizzly. Black bears on the other hand...they're assholes. They have a higher tendency for predatory behaviour. They're also smaller. In their case, if you want to live you need to fight like hell. If you want to die, act like food. It would not be a pleasant death.

^^^^^This. Yup. Grizzlies aren't really the same kind of scary to me for this reason. They don't want to eat you, they just want to you to go away. Black bears.... they see you as food. THAT'S scary.

 

Yup, that's why I said keep attacking. If still attacking they'll finish you off. If not your just a mangled mess in a lot of pain as they wonder off. Black bears are weird, they run if they can but if not they will fuck you up.

It's amazing to watch both species. So much strength. Flipping boulders over like they were nothing. Ripping out stumps.

Yup, and young blackies are ornery as hell too. The only bear I've shot at defensively was a black bear. Young one was acting all uppity and making moves like he was fixing to charge. Put a slug between his feet at 20 yards to change his mind.
