Now we know where all those guys take their trucks for the SQUATTING mod... Lift the front 8" then take it to the yard for a quick 18" drop in the rear. Done and done!

What’s really bad is the fact that that’s not much of a load.

"Last year, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 incident reported driving at about 40 MPH over a desert trail with an overland camping trailer that weighed about 3,000 lbs."

Wow, why would you go that fast off road with a trailer? If I had an off road trailer, I'd be driving easy until I got to a dismount/camping spot, then go all out.

Agreed. Not really that bad. Damage probably started on previous trips after bottoming out.

As said in one other post always put down your jack prior to loading. This could have been easily avoided. Secondly, when using ramps make sure the rear of the trailer has ground contact or near ground contact with stabilizers or jacks, you do not want the ass heavy causing the tongue to raise rear of truck. Think about what can happen once the truck loses ground contact especially on any slope. Yikes! Still happens often.

Not a huge load if static, but I would be willing to bet that the loader dumped it way too fast and dropped about 8-10,000 lbs on that trailer all at once from about 6 feet in the air.

This is exactly right. To put it in perspective, personal fall protection harnesses have to be able to withstand 2,500lbs of force, because that is the strength of the force produced by a 220lb person free-falling 6 feet. The momentum generated by a yard or two of loose material falling that far from a loader bucket to the trailer floor could easily exert a momentary force equivalent to 20,000lbs of static weight.

Yup. Shock load is a thing, and it'll bite you if you're not set up for it. Look at load lifting straps. You'll see some that have a 10,000 lbs working load limit, and that means they breaking strength is going to be more than double that. That 10k strap can and will/has snap with a 5k lbs load that is shock loaded onto it. It's crazy how much extra force is involved.

    THIS^^

Many of the people operating the bucket have no idea what their doing. I have seen it done improperly many times and I have always cringed. I always would put the bucket as close to the truck/trailer as possible and tilted forward very slowly. Sand sometimes required a little shake of the lever, gravel is much easier. And I always loaded pickup trucks on an angle. Unfortunately I just paid to get materials delivered now..not worth destroying my trunk or small trailer.

I only load on trailers. Shoveling/ moving materials from a truck bed sucks. Not everyone has a trailer though…that’s when Home Depot rental comes into play.

I would never do it my own truck for the reason you stated…lol. Some customers would request it because they didn’t want to wait or pay for delivery. I drove this one dump truck that had a pump failure once in a while. Shoveling 4 yards of gravel off a dump truck sucks…

I have a Ram that I drive for work, had to load it up with maybe 900 lbs + 300 lbs of tools in the back the other day. Sketchiest drive home I've had in a while, bottomed out, felt like I was towing a boat, was bobbling all over the place and felt like the nose was going to come off the pavement. Looked underneath it and was like wtf, no leaf springs???

Woah, careful there, the 2022 Tundra doesn't have leaf springs either.

Funny thing is, my 1998 LX470 had coils and hydraulic suspension, and I've loaded that thing to the gills with gear, coolers full of elk meat, and it always felt planted, even on crazy switch backed mountain roads. I have confidence the 2022 Tundra will be similar, or the coils can be upgraded. But lets be honest, stock Toyota truck suspension is a bit on the wimpy side... :p. On the other hand, the Ram felt scary AF. I was under the impression they were supposed to be load carrying beasts, and my work truck, definitely is not.
