What happened? I was out target shooting once and set a soda can down for a bit then swallowed a bee that stung my throat on the way down. Massive internal swelling and difficuly breathing in a rural area, thought I might die. Didn't go to a hospital but probably should have. The pain was pretty intense pushing outwards on my neck, will never leave a soda unattended outside again.

This will likely never happen to me but it's rampant in my neighborhood. I typically purchase used vehicles.
The worst case scenario is the family living down the street.
Our garages are advertised as 'two car' ~ only if the cars are Mini-Coopers. 'One Pluss' might be a fair description.
This family has a new Model X Tesla parked in the garage because it needs access to the charging station. At the curb is a brand new Aston Martin.
    Go figure . . .

Nope... I bought a 2011 in part because it is a truck and I am NOT going to worry about stuff like that.:)
Also, parking like an ass doesn't protect your vehicle... it just attracts other asses. One spot, far away. Occasionally some dope will park right next to you, but I've been parking cars I do care about that way for 20 years, and never had a door dig from it yet.

Fair warning, I know a few people that will intentionally block in multi-space vehicles, and I know another that will key them for "parking like assholes", so it may draw attention that causes exactly what you are attempting to avoid. Just food for thought.

I bought a new (to me) motorcycle last year. Perfectly flawless bike. Parked it in the garage as soon as I got it home until I could get it registered. I went out a few days later to grab a tool from the garage and I’ll be damned if there wasn’t deep dent right in the middle of the gas tank the exact same size as the head of a 16 ounce hammer, and a deep scratch on the side that looked suspiciously like the marks of the claw end of the same size hammer.
Despite repeated grillings of both my kids at periodic intervals over the next several months, no one ever came clean. I ended up selling the bike for gears in the truck, but the entire time I owned it, all I ever saw when I looked at it was that ugly dent :annoyed:

When does a new truck transition to "work truck" status? I think the answer varies by person.:)

One time in Mexico I was visiting my grandmother. There were some kids playing soccer on the street. I heard a thump a few times and realized they were using my truck (a beater, not my current truck) as the goal, and their goalie was terrible.

Initial reaction is never a good idea. Instead I walked to the store next door and bought a few bottles of coke and handed them to the kids. Then asked them not to mess with my truck. They never did again. Every time I visited after they happily said hi.

Kids in that neighborhood aren't afraid of outsiders but bribery goes far. I can't blame them when they live on this block.
    Screenshot_20210811-135837_Photos.jpg Screenshot_20210811-135902_Photos.jpg

These days when I hear the 15 year old kid next door is skating in the street with his friends, I chat with them and move my car out of their way. Then I tease them for not landing easy tricks. Sometimes they have the flat bar out, other times they have the fun box out.

Happens all the time around here. Covering multiple spots because you're too precious about your vehicle to park like everyone else does is a huge invitation for punishment. Especially if it's a lifted truck. People will go out of their way to make it worse for you than a simple door ding, and they will see themselves as righteous for doing it.

I look for a spot that is next to a curb or next to a cart return where only one car can park next to me, and then I hug the side of my spot by the curb or cart return, leaving as much room as possible between me and the one neighboring parking spot. If someone who likes to throw their door wide open parks next to me, hopefully they'll just hit air. It has worked out so far.

    I do the same.

I saw a post somewhere on here that we all park in spaces wrong anyway. (if I remembered who and where I'd credit them) We are all supposed to hug the left side line with pics like below, and it really got me thinking. If we could get this standardized nationwide, it would help, but only for those who are proficient and parking where they aim. I've known plenty of people who cannot park straight no matter what, so they'd bollocks it up for everybody in the end.

Something similar happened to me. Out cruising old gravel roads scouting before hunting season. Stopped for pee break. Had windows down as it was hot out. Got back in and went to take a drink. Damn wasp hit me twice. Once on my upper lip and again on my lower lip trying to "spit" him off of me. He landed on my steering wheel and I punched his ass. I was pissed. Literally took 3 minutes for him to find my soda can. Now I shake my cans before drinking listening for buzzing sounds.

OUCH! These kinds of things are part of why (spills being the other part) drinks in my vehicles have to have lids.

Swelling was minimal. Lips felt like I visited the dentist, fat and numb.

Problem is most of the drinks I like that have kids like Gatorade don't fit in the cup holders:mad:

Yes, but people can see lines and tires in their mirrors if they look, and having the tire touching the line isn't dependent on somebody's spatial awareness abilities like centering in a space and being equidistant from the line on both sides is. It removes an element of subjectivity.

i'm the complete opposite of you guys. i like to see how quickly and accurately i can park in the smallest possible spot my truck will fit. i've even been known to stop in the drive lane so the fam can get out, then park, if the spot is too small to allow doors on both sides to open.

That it is. I try not to take too much pride in anything though, cuz the Universe has a way of making me humble about it if I do; and it is seldom a pleasant process.
