What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

That's what I felt last year. PHM seemed to think it was a fuel pump issue after coming down from the mountains and had me hit my tank a few times. Here is the video I took when my truck was struggling to start that day. It sounded much worse in person.

I did a tire/wheel clean-up today. The 301's were looking kinda dull.

I think both are not carb legal but I never had paperwork for the Airaid.

If I can find a good dry filter to fit the K&N I will run that again during the Winter months. The K&N sounds super aggressive and did give me a bump in fuel economy. Only part I don't care for is the K&N filter, they're full of big holes.

would it not fit the stock airbox? also, wouldnt any dry filter with the same diameter fit the piping?

The piping is an oddball size on the K&N.

The airaid tube and the K&N fipk kit (extinct now I believe) both use the stock airbox and an aftermarket filter. They were identical in design except K&N used a cool pyramid shaped filter for more surface area. I don't think that K&N was carb legal either.

There were three different K&N kits: the fipk, the black tube with cone filter, and the metal tube with cone filter. I have the black tube one of course.

 

These airaid kits are carb legal, not sure I want to get rid of the stock airbox though. But getting rid of the stock pipe with that big box seems nice. I also dont really want to replace the whole box and pipe if I had to switch it out to smog, but if it was just a pipe it would be less of a hassle.

 

Those wheels look great. Are you saying that the Chemical Guys VRP is what made them look so good? I may have to try that.

 

Yeah, that's all I used today. I buffed with microfiber after putting it on.

 

Anyone want pics of plugging baffles or resonators on an ‘02 q45. When i get the plastic and radiator out of the way, ill see if i can cobble some proper ram air. And dad would be tickled if i had a plastic coffee can that could take dry ice and cool an aluminum chunk of pipe, with the iat sensor in it. Enriches the mixture to compensate for an intake pressure signal, and loud pipes. Cause i bet a ck45de will sing with loud pipes. Maybe not as flamboyant as a g35, but enough to take his bosses amg to task.

 

A Skoal can lid was a perfect fit to eliminate the intake resonator on a mid 90's Chevrolet Vortec V8.

 

Child proof tylonol or ibuprofen lid with the warnings sanded off for my 5vz 4runner, and i think the center cup of a spray paint lid, but its been a while.

 

The 05 & 06 vvti motors use a different airbox than the earlier 00-04 models.

On those you can retrofit a rubber velocity stack that TRD calls an 'air accelerator', which they include in their CAI kits. (Which is nothing more than an oiled air filter, a rubber velocity stack, filter minder, sometimes a smoother intake tube and/or fancy airbox lid, depending on model.)

Need to remove some of the rubber from the base of the TRD velocity stack.


Requires trimming the part that sticks into the fender (more than pictured below, just left 1/8" or so lip past the flare/bulge after removing the foam).

 

Would any of the AFE filters fit? If not maybe AEM?

Swapped out tires. In my driveway. No tire machine. Anybody else do dumb shit like this? If it’s been awhile, I totally forget what a bitch it is. Every frikkin time. I’ve been runnin 35/12.5/17’s for awhile now, and even with all the cutting and pounding I’ve done, I still make contact. Been lookin at smaller tires and came across a used set of 34/10.5/17’s. Yes used but in great shape for cheap, so I can see if the size is ideal before spending the money on a new set. Haven’t really checked for clearance yet, but it’s amazing how much smaller a 34 looks than a 35. Probably has a bit to do with them being 2” more narrow as well tho.

 

Keep us posted. I'm still waiting on my 4crawler 1 inch body lift. I'm wanting 35s and 17s for 2022 but may have to settle for 34s and 17s. Time will tell. I feel like I could fit a skinny 34 now since Ive already got ~33.5x11.5 inch tires

 

My buddy went from 35x12.5 to 34x10.5 and he was mad about how small they looked. I think thats a perfect size for these trucks if you have the right wheels. Post some pics when you can.

Spent some time pondering bumpers last night and stuck on that so putting it aside for a while.

Also, I have a question on shell mounting which I can post in a shell specific thread but thought worth asking here. I had an ARE shell bolted through the rails. Looks like the Leer which is on it now is secured with clamps. The rail holes don’t align exactly with the Leer bulges. Anyone know if it’s safe to drill and bolt the Leer on?

 

Been using Seafoam since forever. In the crankcase 100-150mi before each oil change. In the gas tank. In the intake. I've even used it in transmissions, per their instructions. Anywhere there's typically carbon deposits and some kind of petroleum product goes, you can use it, it's essentially just a highly-refined petroleum product.

That said, how you apply it and how much (or rate added) is important. SeaFoam DOES NOT RECOMMEND applying their product using vacuum lines for this reason and reiterated with some extra points here. While I doubt you'll hydrolock as suggested, one guy on a hot rod forum tried telling me he hydrolocked his engine applying direct to the cylinders.

I know ppl who've used vacuum lines religiously, but they make a spray can with straw kit that lets you hook it in typically at the intake/MAF/TB of most engines and dump what SeaFoam feels is a perfectly metered proportion to your intake.

SeaFoam has videos and guides at YouTube and their website instructing the proper method for various cleanings, although it's generic, it's supposedly universal. The above definitely isn't me saying, "Oh yeah, totally wasn't a product issue, SeaFoam doesn't kill engines!"

If that jackass on the LS1Tech forums was accurate and not just talking out his ass because he wants to hate on the product, I think he's an idiot. Never dump more than a teaspoon or two of fluids in a cylinder (Marvel's Mystery oil, to free up cylinders for example), and avoid submerging or pouring in liquids via vacuum lines.

I also think water bath may've played a role but not sure where all you sprayed, in the engine bay, whatever.

 

I've tried to dismount a car tire exactly once. I gave up after an hour of trying to break the bead and left it to the tire shop.

I found the edge at 107 in San Felipe on stock tires. I did not have a dedicated photographer to document it unfortunately.
