I have a dealer across the street that would not budge off MSRP and went 8 miles away and they discounted close to 19%

 

The rear shocks on a jeep wrangler look about the same

 

Not saying that it will be a HD coil spring, just stating that coil rears are used all the way up to 3/4 tons. The Ram 1/2 coil rear is comparable to the other 1/2 ton leafs when similarly equipped. Same load rating but with a better ride seems like a win to me.

 

Locomotives and rail cars use coil springs, so do a variety of heavy off road trucks like the MTVR 7 ton 6X6. I've seen coil springs on mine haul trucks too.

We're far more likely to get an aftermarket coil spring that is heavier and still able to be tuned for small impact/bump compliance with a progressive increased resistance to load than trying to get the same thing out of a set of leaf packs.

 

Toyota didnt say that… unnamed and unsourced dealers said that. Hearsay that’s worth about as much as a plug nickel

 

Their website claims they are going to set the new bar for on and off road

 

Plus we can easily demonstrate that old TBoe1776 doesn't know much about rear axle shock absorber locations on the current Tundra or a whole host of other solid rear axle applications.


Here we can see the rear axle on a 2021 Ford F-150. Yep shock mount below centerline on the axle.

 

Next up we have a 2021 Chevrolet/GMC 1/2 ton:

Now a Ram 1500:

 

See a trend here guys? Shocks on live axles typically mount to a bracket below the axle.

Notice the shock mounts below the centerline of the axle shaft, and it is below the pumpkin.

I guess you need to sell your truck, it will strand you in the desert to be eaten by buzzards.

Nah, your post was an honest observation I was just under my truck a few weeks ago changing gear oil out and remembered the shock mounting brackets being below the axle.

So I took some photos this afternoon for comparison purposes. Hopefully they’re helpful, and good for some ribbing… cause we’re truck people and we can flip each other shit in a good natured way.

 

I get your point. Especially with your six post in the row. If people didn’t see or notice it before just show them and educate them. No reason for anyone to go from zero to a-hole in one second. I’ve been on many forms. but this is the only one where some people just want to fight and be assholes. I don’t get it.

 

If your lower control arms, where the shocks mount, are level with the pumpkin you’ve got an issue. Mine are slightly below or just level with the bottom of my skid plate.

 

Again trying to provide examples of other applications with a similar design.

 

F250 Tremor is level

 

Yep, the axle layout on the bigger trucks are different. Same story on the Ram Powerwagon. They’re also taller underneath as far as frame to axle, so they can probably get the space they need for shock travel without a bracket significantly below axle centerline.

The F250 is still just below centerline but not very much.

Yep, eyeballing it the brackets are about pumpkin level in back. Up front mine are about skid plate level.

The new truck looks about the same, but hard to tell given Toyota’s very close in photos.
