That's why you drive to neighboring state. I got 3k off MSRP in AZ last December without much haggling. I was just excited they held the truck for two weeks for me to get out there and pick it up.

I am aware, but I am also aware that you can break the composite bed and bend it outwards as well, its not an everyday occurrence but there is enough of them that it makes a pretty good google search. (I own a Tacoma)

Yes pushing a 1/2 ton is much different than pushing a 3/4 ton to it’s max. But again if you are getting that close to max you should be going to the next weight class. And that’s not the fault of the truck. In all honesty 1/2 tons stopped being “commercial” grade in the early 2000’s. No 1/2 ton is worthy of commercial use anymore but I still feel their incredibly capable as a truck.

I do understand what were getting at…

Well let me rephrase it, Toyota doesn’t have a pickup truck to offer beyond a 1/2 ton.

Near Boston most dealers are doing between $3k and $5k markup over MSRP for any new Toyota, the highest end gets the $5k. The high volume dealers, the ones with actual trucks on the lots instead of 2-3, aren't doing a markup.

They don't give 10 grand off sticker like the domestics, but you can usually get 2-4,000 off around here. I got about 3,000 off sticker on my pro back in 2016. In the current market though you are lucky to find any thing on the lots.

I still think a halfton is a good balance of daily driving comfort and occasional towing and hauling capability. If I wanted to have 3 vehicles, I might roll the dice on a domestic 3500 and have a cheap car for commuting but I prefer to only have two vehicles.

For those of you who are planning to purchase the new model, what are you expecting to pay compared to current pricing? Or put another way, how much more are you willing to pay for a comparably equipped trim like Platinum or Pro?

The new Tundra has normal buttons if you don't want to use touchscreen.

But, our 2020 Toyota does have an issue with Android Auto that's well known, no fix yet. The tech does give me pause.

    .
Not sure on Tundras, but on my truck the brake lines and speed sensor harnesses drop down from the frame on the left and right side of the diff pumpkin, and on my truck a quick way to tell if it's a e-locker is a harness dropping down right on top of the pumpkin, just like that pic

I just rechecked the pic, I'm pretty sure this Tundra is setup like my truck, I can see the pass side brake line union and an electrical connector going to the top of the pass side axle tube.
I'm pretty sure this truck has e-locker

Go crawl under your truck and check out the shock absorber mounts on the rear axle.

They look like this: (except not almost 15 years of service and 141K miles)

    D0D35F7D-5BF5-4800-8D00-E6C2AE2548D6.jpg 7B4A34F4-2AD5-4506-8DD6-DD58F9082B5A.jpg

The new truck appears basically identical, it’s not an issue.

Shock absorber mounts are located on the axle below centerline for a reason, and if memory serves it’s to exert better control and to allow a taller shock for the given space.

Additionally given how tight the bracket is tucked against the wheel hub you are very unlikely to contact the bracket on an obstacle, because the wheel and tire should contact it first and roll over it. Should you manage to get up against a rock or some other hard object that tall and that close to the wheel and tire sidewall… you’re about to have a real shitty day with a ruined wheel and tire.

Looks the same as the current Tundra.

@Coal Dragger beat me to it

Edit: I appreciate how the lower shock mounts are tucked in by the wheels. Look under a Silverado. Those shock mounts look like they’re about to be sheared off if you go off-road.

It does, but some guys just want to bitch for no reason and have never laid eyes on their own truck’s rear axle.

Or the rear axles of most every other truck equipped with shock absorbers. They’re almost all below centerline, and Toyota at least gets them very close to the wheel hubs where they’re far more protected from impacts.
