As much as I hate to say it. Ram has gotten better. It is fun to make fun of the whole Fiat deal, but there is no doubt they are making better trucks today compared to in the past.

in normal times, used products are usually less than new products. The point is comparative. If widget A loses 30% and the competitor's widget loses 50%, widget A has better resale. That is generally based on expected usefulness of the widget going forward. If you think your widget will be useful and its maintenance low, you will pay more for it than something that will cost more to maintain and has a shorter useful life.

Toyotas have better resale in comparison to it's competitors because of that expected long-term reliability and long useful life. That isn't to say that all individual trucks are all going to be better than all competitors trucks. There are lemons in every bunch. It just means that in the absence of perfect information, you expect Toyota to give you less grief and cost you less money than others while lasting longer. It's just probability.

I looked it up from one site out of curiosity.

KBB computes resale comparisons based upon MSRP:

    https://www.kbb.com/best-cars/top-10-best-resale-value-cars-trucks-suvs/

“Kelley Blue Book’s annual Best Resale Value Awards recognizes the 10 individual vehicles that are projected to retain the highest percentage of their original MSRP.”

This would beg the question (justifiably or not) whether one really gains that much from Toyota’s higher resale value. It’s a wash if you pay more on the front end and get more on the back end.

Not disrespecting Toyota. Just figuring everything out.

I agree but if you want to play in the dirt.

I assume there going to have a 2wd drive version as well. Is it more (work/parts/cost) to have a torsion awd setup and a 2wd version vs what they do now? I'm wondering if the new Raptor R will be AWD.

I paid 30% under MSRP for my last 2 Rams and lost $3,500 on trade in . I'm not going to complain about that . But if you go by MSRP then I lost over 30% in the 3 1/2 years I owned it . It's nothing to get 25% off MSRP on Rams anyway even now they're discounted by 10% before haggling . On the other side I couldn't get even 2% off a Tundra . So I would've paid more for less features for the Tundra .
I like the features . If the 2022 Tundra has the features it looks like it'll have and the reliability stay's the same I'll definitely look into one when I'm ready to trade .

Where I'm from we have to pay property tax on vehicles, the higher the resale the higher the tax. My sr5 tundra for example was $1k a year. I keep my vehicles 10+ years so the resale isn't a huge selling point for me and actually hurts me in this area, if you do a good job shopping and haggling your not gonna have much issue no matter what brand you buy.

Where I live we pay a sales tax of 11% on the transaction price of a vehicle, then we pay registration every year based on MSRP. I bought a car with an MSRP of $33k for 28.9k, for 3 registration cycles they claimed my vehicle was being taxed on $33k. On a VW. As if a VW holds value like that. A new Tundra will likely cost me $7-8k in tax and registration day one, and $1000/yr for the next 3 years

Years ago I had an 08 Limited crewmax I really liked but had to sell it. I'm going to order one of these when they become available because I need a truck that can haul a family of 5 with 3 adult kids with room in the back for gear. Sure, I could get an F150 or 1500, but I think the longevity of the Tundra is worth the money.

Where do you guys live? That property tax on your vehicles or registration on your value of your vehicle is oppressive. Even here in Alberta, it is a flat rate for registration and property tax only relates to the current market value of the home we own.

Good ole Virgina, that tax is on everything you own... Vehicles, campers boats, utility trailers etc. If you open a business it's the Same here, you pay tax on everything you own down to a pencil you buy for the office.

With taxes like that I would look into moving. Even if you end making less money, it might work out with a better tax structure.

In the Seattle area, anyone living along I-5 in the metro areas and anyone living within a certain distance from proposed light rail terminals is in an ETA excise tax area.
Fun fact, any car was under $100/yr to register through 2015.
Another fun fact, our leg of light rail got pushed from 2036 to 2047.

And our state just passed a law saying it's racist to use credit score for determining insurance risk, and our insurance renewed at $444/yr higher, and our renewal letter specifically mentioned that's the bulk of our increase.

We joke that we're gonna move to California soon!

Looks like the switched to a single bolt for the ucas like the Tacoma’s. That’s definitely going to make changing them out harder.

The new outboard rear shock placement is awesome though. I wish they showed the other side to see if they mounted the shocks both facing forward or if the other is facing toward the back. They shouldn’t need to do this because wheel hop and axle wrap should be minimal with a link rear setup. And my ocd will be a lot happier if they’re both going forward.
