FOB won’t lock tailgate, but unlocks just fine.

I have a 2018 Tundra 1794 Edition with a tailgate lock. Bought used and I just added a tonneau cover. I find the tailgate will lock and unlock with the key just fine. The FOB unlocks the tailgate remotely along with all the doors also just fine. But the FOB will not lock the tailgate. I must lock the tailgate with the key every time I lock the truck. Seems like the tailgate should lock along with all the other doors remotely with the FOB. ???

Any resistance when you manually lock and unlock?

Have you looked at the actuator on the tailgate lock? May need grease.

This. I also found that if everything isn’t lined up just perfectly, it stops working correctly. Especially for lock. Only one screw is used to hold the actuator in place. I had to modify through trial and error to get mine to be reliable. I think they get out of whack when closing the tailgate and over bumpy roads. The actuator needs to be perfectly straight up and down. There’s a locating tab that allows the actuator to clock just slightly. This is just enough so that all the linkage doesn’t relate to a perfect unlock and lock actuation.

To get a sense of what you are looking at this vid shows how to access the panel to look inside the the tailgate (relevant part starts around 1 min):

    Thank you!
Slight resistance with key in either direction. Seems normal.

With access panel removed, do you hear or feel the actuator motor movement when attempting to lock with remote ?
You can use a 9v transistor radio size battery by temporarily touching the 2 actuator conductors to the + and - of the battery, should either lock or unlock. Then switch the + - connections and the action(lock/unlock) should be reverse of what it was first time.
