Behind the grille light bar, anyone done it?

It supplies all the light I will probably ever need, but in hindsight I wish I would've gotten a longer light bar.

I used the Rough Country 30” single row Black Series w/ DRL with Rago Fabrication stealth mounts. I will say for the price, the RC bar was well made and casts plenty of light. I had tried a cheap Amazon one and the threads on the ends of the mount caps/plates stripped before every getting it installed (cheap aluminum threads with stainless screws cross threaded as soon as tension was applied) The DRL feature on the RC was nice to actually be able to turn it on when driving on the street without blinding all of traffic. The high power mode was impressive when off-road and back forest hwy with no traffic at night.

 

Do you think the double row would work well in that spot?

 

You could possibly fit a double in there…but honestly it would be overkill from an actual usage perspective. The single row throws way more light than even my brights reach. It’s more than enough light on high mode. The DRL version is cool for actually being able to turn it on outside of backroads. The high mode is great when out of the city for spotting deer or other animals far in advance, or just off-roading at night.

 

2nd on the RC 30” light bar, just installed one myself and on the back roads it’s bright enough for myself

 

I have this same light. The first one I received showed condensation within the first week. They sent me another to replace it and it has worked fine for the last year. Rough Country never asked for the other back so I dissected it. The weak point is the seal behind the plexi lens. If the bolts are not tightened down right, the stretched gasket slips. I dont know how they get that gasket in there, but it doesnt seem to ever want to go back in without having gaps. I ended up sealing it with black dicor rv sealant. Maybe I will throw it in behind my grill?

Not a bad idea…fortunately, no condensation/gasket issues on mine, but not a bad deal if your sealant holds up; glad they took care of you with the warranty and potentially a 2 for 1 as well.

 

Can you give a update on the quality of this light? Maybe a pic of it installed? Seems the reviews on this are far better than the Nillight

 

Still no condensation behind the lens. Expectations exceeded.

 

Did you use provided mounting hardware?

 

No I used the SDHQ mounting kit.

 

It appears to come with mounting hardware correct? Any particular reason for not using the hardware it came with? Don’t mean to bug ya to death just wanna get the correct hardware for mounting.

 

No worries, I just saw SDHQ’s bracket specifically designed for the Tundra hood bulge and figured it’d be easier than using the brackets that came with the bar. Hindsight, I should’ve saved the money and used the bracket that came with the bar.

What are you running in the hood gap there?
I am looking to do something like that as I want to keep away from the grill area and I have a 2019 SR5.
