Really happy with the desert armor warrior xl tent. Great fit on the tundra and held up through a nasty thunderstorm this weekend. Picture of airing it out when we got back.

I did use blue loctite on the rail feet, and the brackets

What have you done to your 3rd gen Tundra today?

 

Is anyone setting up for discrete/stealth/free camping vs the mad max technical look? I was thinking maybe a double cab LB with a cot, ice box, water jug sink cabinet? Perhaps some form of lighting and (generator charged) battery powered ventilation. Tinted out all round incl topper and some bs business logo magnets or something.

 

Close to my goal after I can get my current setup sold. No LB or magnets either but close.

 

Googled this but this topper is close to what I will purchase and turn into a stealth camper

 

Just got my tuff stuff elite tent delivered on Thursday. Installed on Friday. Kids call it the tree house. It’s installed on the 18” RCI rack and my bed is lined with the Cali raised molle system. Have a few trips planned already. 2 consist of the best in the desert races in Laughlin and Parker and then just camping at some state parks for the kids.

 

I've overlanded/glamped/weekenderlanded with various Toyota trucks and SUV's, but hands down the best glamper was this 2003 Eurovan. I'd still have it if I could find parts for it.

That was a badass machine. Would do 110mph fine and smooth, handled fine at high speed. Builtin LP furnace, fridge, four season camper. Lifted, it had 10" minimum ground clearance, FWD that thing was a great hill-climber, did awesome in snow, sand, mud. 1550lb payload. If I could still get basic parts for it I would still own it, but VW dealers won't even touch them, and indy's won't either.

These are so cool. I saw one at a car show the other day and was really impressed with the space and utility in such a small footprint. Wish they still made stuff like this. Thanks for sharing it

 

Yeah, it's difficult to find poptop campers. They're nice and versatile but it's all custom builds these days or you buy an ancient VW.

I hadn't heard of GTRV, really cool and they look like high quality conversions. I've always liked the Ursa Minor Jeep conversions as well.

 

Just finished our first 2 nighter.

We have 5 nights in this topper total.

We went to the Oregon Coast and found places to park for free.

Shake down cruise.

We leave in 2 weeks for a 35 day trip across to Minnesota.

 

Van conversions are a niche, a nice comfortable niche, most people like to start with a robust 4WD truck. Toss a topper, slidein camper or RTT on and have the ground clearance and wheel articulation for the more difficult roads.

I like a builtin furnace, we'll do three months offgrid snowbirding to AZ, CA, NV. Night temps drop to 20F often December through February, we're not gonna climb into longjohns every night for a comfortable sleep. And excursions for bodily functions at night you have a huge sliding door with a van, open and close it fast the warmth from the furnace is so nice to get back into. Vans have a rear hatch also. It's all about tradeoffs RV'ing, overlanding, whatever term is used.

We have a 19' offroadable trailer now, Micro-Minnie 1706fb with a lift. Can yank it to some nice places and it's the basecamp with the comforts of home. Mongrel Labs over the years aren't doing an RTT either. We like to have a dog or two for entertainment value, so much fun with dogs out in the boonies. Good alerters also, they'll spot a bear or intruder in our camp long before I can.
