Hate my seats

Any drive over 1/2 hr or so has me playing with seat adjustments constantly in my limited. I have never been so uncomfortable in a vehicle. Love the truck otherwise but damn, is it just me? Seats won't let me slide around and have no cush at all. Might also be related to steering wheel position and height but can't be sure.

At this point am playing with ode of trade for f150 as a fix.

 

Do you have back problems? My dad had similar issues when riding in any car or truck for long periods and had to use a extra cushion because the lumbar inflator wasn't enough. I personally have driven my truck on a 4k road trip and was quite comfortable. If your going to trade in for this one issue you might see if you can rent that f150 for a weekend and drive the crap out of it.

 

No back problems. My suburban was insanely comfortable in both position and general cush of the seats. Long trips no trouble. Really bummed about this. Can't go back to gm as their AFM is a deal breaker for me.

 

I did severely injure my tailbone two Januarys ago but that's not the discomfort I'm feeling now. tell you what though that was some awful pain. for about 8 months it hurt to get out of a chair! slipped on ice.

part of it MIGHT be the headrest angle. I feel like it's tilted forward more than should be. maybe I should remove it and try to bend it a bit. tried putting it in backwards but that was too much reverse tilt.

 

I think my seats are as comfortable as any other truck i've driven.

no back problems though.

 

I've got lower back and neck problems and find my Tundra to be one of, if not THE most comfortable vehicle to drive/ride in. Maybe you just haven't found the right combination of seat height, back recline, distance from steering wheel and wheel tilt. I admit, it took me a little bit to get it in the right place, but when I did, it's like sitting in a recliner watching TV to me. I also like the firm seats, though....I can see where that might not be good for everyone, though. A friend has a new Silverado and to me the seats are TOO cushy. Keep playing around with the different combinations and hopefully you'll find that sweet spot!

 

Personally I find the seats very comfortable. It took a while for me to get the right setting even though my seats are manual. I hate it when I have to move the seat back, or the seats front to back if that makes sense. When my wife drives the truck she moves the seats and mirrors then I've got this whole thing where I'm trying to find exactly where I used to be sitting LOL. On long trips I do like to put a towel on the armrest of the door and center console, just so I have a nice comfortable spot for my elbows. In my younger days I used to have the seat back where you have almost have a gangster lean. Now I pretty much sit straight up and down.

 

I found sitting almost straight up is the most comfort. Also gives more equal distance both upper and lower body. Being 6'3" The usual issue is leg room vs stretching for the wheel. Plus easier reaching all the controls and grabbing my roadie (only on back country dirt roads!).

 

I do find the seats a bit on the stiff side but still comfortable for me anyways. An option you may consider would be to take it to a upholsterer and have the seat foam changed out for a softer more comfortable one. Won't be cheap but I don't think it would be too bad.

 

I posted abotu this when I bought it. The biggest thing for me is thigh support. It's horrible in the limited. Had I known the platinum had this feature I would have bought it instead in a heartbeat (my fuck up for not investigating).


The biggest thing for me is the thigh support _/ I actually ended up doing two things. Leveling the truck out helped, I always felt like I was falling forward. But then I installed a couple of washers underneath the bolts in the front that hold the seat down.



Part of the problem is I came from a 750li to the tundra. And the seats in that thing were like 1,000 way adjustable....to the point it was insane all the different things you could adjust. Hip support, thigh support, back support, etc.

 

Is this problem specific to limited seats? I find my SR5 seats very comfortable, even on long distance trips. Is there any thicker cushion you could get on the seat to alleviate the whatever problem you feel.

 

Re-upolstery or maybe installing a platinum seat in your truck is going to be way cheaper than an F150. Not to mention all the extra headaches that come with a Ford.

 

But for auto lights and heated seats I was ready to buy an sr5. But then an overnight test drive had me hating the cloth seats big time. I'm really an sr5 kinda guy. Not special, sorta plain but like to get the job done. I dunno maybe if I had spent more time on the cloth I'd have liked them better. Heat is easy fix and there's gotta be a reasonable way to get auto lights. Still the 16 sr5 was much louder due to exhaust drone. How that works when my limited 17 was much better I have no idea.

 

my daily driver before my tundra was an accord. had sport style seats that were more "glove" like. not going to lie, they were much more comfortable than my tundra SR5 seats. I have noticed that I tend to squirm in longer drives. but they are def more comfortable than my 2001 silverado seats.

 

Talk about like a glove... I drove a honda s2000 with bucket seats before I got the tundra... No movement at all when turning... I'm not a big person by any means... but it's taking some getting used to with the Tundra seats... They are comfy but I slide a bit if I turn with any sort of speed. lol

 

I thought the originals were comfortable, but when I switched out to the aftermarket leather I think they added more cushion and it is significantly more comfortable. Much more than my wife's highlander.

 

any details on where you added cushion?


My wifes MDX i could sleep in. My 911 is uncomfortable but the seating position works. The tundra drives me nuts, feel like i'm falling forward. I've been trying to find a set of platinum seats second hand with no luck.

 

I got Classic Soft Trim seats installed professionally. They have a line designed for the 3rd gen Tundra. Not sure where anything or if anything was really added, but it feels like memory foam.

 

In Limited, I feel like I am seating on a park bench. Clinging to the seat & steering on every turn. Hue disappointment

 

I was worried when I first drove mine as the seat was stiff and uncomfortable. After while they became comfortable. Break in period on leather?

Leather seats take time to break in and soften up.

 

I recently purchased a 2010 SR5. Cloth seat drove me nuts grabbing at my shirt. Always squirming and pulling my shirt down. I bought some Clazzio leather seat covers and rarely have the issue now. Also seems not to be a problem if I have my shirt tucked in. Given the problems some of my friends have had with their trucks breaking down I would seek a solution with the truck you have.

 

I've noticed the seats are firm, but I liked that because I feel like the foam will last longer. Foam breaks down over time and becomes softer until it eventually disintegrates. I've done several multi day road trips in mine and I've never been uncomfortable, however I'm also 31 and have no back problems.

 

I think it's a height thing. I'm 6'4 and I feel like the seat does not tilt back enough. It stays more upright so you don't get the thigh support you need for long legs. Also I find the seam in the middle of the seat cushion tends to be very irritating. These seats suck compared to the big 3.

 

installed factory cloth on drivers seat this morning. will see how that goes. initial impression is much softer and seat heater works a LOT better. if this isn't enough I'm going to fiddle with the foam a bit. first try will be to add thin batting to outside panels for more support.

 

Are you happy with the seats now? I usually prefer a stiff seat but on trips over an hour I find myself squirming. Has anyone driven a Limited and a Platinum enough know if there's a difference? Kinda wished I had driven a Platinum before buying but wasn't a big fan of the diamond tuck pattern. Mine's a 16 with around 11,000 miles and the seats feel as firm as the day I bought it. Are the 17's any different?

 

Yep. Looks goofy having one cloth seat and headrest doesn't match but I am finally comfortable in my truck. Have given thought to swapping leather back in to see if I still would hate it but for now leaving it alone.
