What have you done to your 2nd gen Tundra today?

I have to report to this as well. My truck 2011 5.7 has been very jumpy since purchased used in 2015. Recently slighty rock or speed bump and it opens up like a complete monster. I have 6" lift and 35s so my gas has always sucked. 10.5.


I saw the post and did the same thing. Ordered the part for my year for $30 and received the part number for the newer model thats $145 from sparks parts. Wow Wow Wow. Smooth acceleration and no more jumpy throttle. Rpms are better. I reset my gas avg at dash and it went from 10.5 to 11.6. No lie. Should have took picture.

 

I have to confirm, normally I get 10 mpg around the city (possible to get up to 12 mpg, but I literally have to drive like a grandma) but after the pedal, I'm driving like I normally do and I've gotten about 11.5 on both tanks I filled up on, about to throw the truck on a 3" and 35s (from a 1" and 33s) so I'm predicting it'll go back down to 10 in the city consistently (good ole 4.7) also it not being jumpy over speed bumps is great...

removed my front sway bar last night and wow what a difference, going on a 1.5 hour drive on Sunday so will update with my thoughts at highway speeds

 

Finally took the time to change the fluid in the front diff. My first try messed up the allen socket. I ground down a 14mm and welded it in.Came off easy after being heated up with the welding.Oil came out clean,but was less than 2 quarts. Feel way better now.

 

Been absent for a few months. My eldest son passed away and I haven't been motivated to do much.
Last week I removed the wrinkly plated grille and replaced it with one I painted. I did it myself with adhesion promoter, catalyzed primer, base and 4 coats clear. Only had to cut and buff one gnat. Probably could have left it since it is a grille and bugs will cover it regularly lol. But I figured it should be new at least for a day.

Does look great!! Keep yourself busy finding all the little stuff you can. Losing a child is rough. I don't know first hand as a parent, but I know it tore up my parents when I was a child and my sister died. We went as a family to a group called Compassionate Friends. Not sure if they're still a thing anymore, but definitely reach out for help if you feel shaken, OK.

I ordered this catch can kit from Radium Automotive a couple of months ago. Installed it this morning. Was a piece of cake and a satisfying result. Our kit uses two catch cans. One from the PCV and one receives from the valve cover ventilation. I replaced the PCV while I was at it. Careful not to over-tighten..... There are cheaper catch cans and some more expensive, but these were very high quality in a kit at a moderate price.


There was an accident locally where a vehicle caught fire with occupants inside. Someone happened to have an extinguisher and the fire held at bay enough for the people to evacuate. Imagine had there not been someone so prepared... So I picked up a couple of extinguishers and tucked them in the back by the doors. Also thought it useful to indicate where they are.

 

Drained and filled transfer case fluid.

Front and rear differential drain bolts were not coming off so I suctioned out as much as I could from the fill plug and refilled it.

May pay someone to do it in 30k miles so they could get the drain plug off for me. Another motivational factor is that I hated being on my back and smelling gear oil.

 

That stuff is one of the most foul smelling stuff around.

 

Good call, we carry them on our work trucks and you’d be surprised how many people use theirs a year helping others out.

Turned out good! My 08’s grill has some wrinkles in the chrome and trying to decide what I’m going to replace it with when the time comes.

 

Just finished a transmission service. Records show it had last been done at a local Toyota dealer at 100,000 miles. I'm right at 205,000 now. Bought it with 201,000. When inquiring as to the process at the service drive a couple of months ago, I had little confidence they were going to do it right. Can't say exactly why, but I felt uneasy with what was being explained. So I bit the bullet and bought the tools necessary to do the job. That amounted to a measuring beaker, a power pump a Veepeak OBD bluetooth device and an app to read the pan temp. I already had everything else. Watched a few youtube videos and went for it. The fluid came out brown like motor oil. I didn't have any shifting problems and the trans didn't act up, but I like to keep my vehicles on the maintenance ball. It took 21 quarts and 7 drain/fill procedures to get the fluid cherry and another three+ quarts to finish the service and level it. However, I know it was done right and now the fluid is pristine. Having all of the equipment now, I can do it a drain and fill any time I want. I'll be much more frequent than the previous owner. No pics though...

Put the headlight protector "wings" on my bambi-basher, unsure about the look, but they are growing on me. Added my 7" spots and a 32" light bar (hidden under bar spots are mounted to).

 

I added the lights to my front bumper yesterday afternoon and tested for function. All I have to do is zip tie up the excess. I RE used the plug in connectors and wiring harness/dash switch the previous owner had used for his junk HID kit that was hanging under there. One day I’ll get a fog light stalk switch and maybe a new steering wheel.

Oh, and I’m still catching hell from the wife about how horrible and stupid my truck looks. She claims my undercarriage is going to get torn up since it’s now exposed, versus the lower factory bumper

 

My wife gives me hell about my truck too. She thinks I love my Tundra more than her.

I love my truck and I love my wife...just don't make me choose between the two.

 

Upgraded the shifter with 3 separate parts I found on Etsy. I had a metal shifter prior and I loved it but it got too cold in the winter to touch.

Now there's no indication of the shifting pattern so I guess I can't valet it anymore haha.

 

I gotta be honest still trying to figure out where you got those stickers lol

 

Etsy has tons of weird stuff like that with no regard for trademarks lol. Search for "Mario kart button stickers". The exact ones I bought are no longer available but they don't stick great anyway.
