Bought my Tundra in early May..here is the tank by tank and total running MPG. More than happy with this. Typical driving is about 75% interstate and 25% City. About 1/3 the interstate driving is rush hour and/or well under posted speeds. Last two tanks have been with Tow/Haul activated most of the time. I filled it up a little early this last tank as I was at Costco and there were no lines..hard to pass that up!

I had been running 93 but with gas prices skyrocketing I decided to put half a tank of 87 in (I try to fill up at half a tank) and I noticed my mpg increased by 0.5. I know this is not scientific but it is enough for me to notice.

I can only presume with those awesome numbers that you get to drive 50-60mph a lot and live in a very flat place. my absolute best efforts in western WV/eastern KY have got me like...15.8. normally it's 14.5.

If no traffic, i will drive the speed limit which on my intestate drive starts at 70 then drops to 65. Once in a while it will drift up to 75-77 mph..seems to like that speed for some reason, but I prefer to keep at the speed limit. I find a drive to be much more relaxing when everybody is passing me and I don't have to pass anybody...just cruise. Pretty sure I am in the minority on that feeling. Some hills, but nothing major.

I have been using the Tow/Haul button most every trip the last two tanks. Not sure if that is part of it, but I do recall reading that getting up to speed sooner rather than later on the interstate helps fuel economy.

Do you shut off tow/haul once you get to speed? I've always understood that to mean the transmission doesn't shift into the highest gear, which would keep the RPM's high, which would hurt your mpg.

I have a buddy who is a mpg champion. He has the ideal situation for his commute. Gets to drive 50-55 on a flat 2 lane the whole way for like 45 minutes. He could pretty consistently get 29 out of his 16 Tacoma. With the Tundra though, he's only managed to do a best of 18.5 I believe. He was sure he would get 21..lol

I made what I consider to be a very small mod to the back of my cab and increased my fuel mileage immensely. Sitting at like 18+ in town and around 25+ highway.

    Check it out!

Id be happy with your worst MPGs. My best MPG lately was 14.4mpg from Portland,OR to Eastern WA 95% highway.. On the way back I only got 13.3mpg. My tires are 275-70-18 so still far from 35s. Fastest I drove was 74mph on cruise control. I learned to live with it and refer to it as sMiles Per Gallon.

No sir. Tow/Haul stays turned on until I arrive at my destination. At cruising speed on the interstate, say 68-70 mph, IIRC the tach is reading about 1750 or so which tells me the T/H does not lock you out of the OD gears. Will pay attention to that today when I head to the golf course.

Yeah, but you were probably driving into the wind both ways!

    My mileage (stock everything):

Around town 11.5 mpg. But, I only really drive short distances with lots of stop lights and signs.

SW Portland Metro to Redmond and back my wife and kid with minimal luggage: 19.1 mpg.

SW Portland Metro to Pacific City and back with truck loaded with gear and my foot in it: 17.2 mpg.

SW Portland Metro to Newport and back with truck loaded to 7150lbs and pulling 2050lbs tent trailer: 15.4 mpg.

I am content with these numbers.

Edit: the MPG above is according to the computer. I did hand calculation on the 15.4 and I actually got 15.36 for the trip.

Yeah the smiles are off the chart. I am not one to care all that much what others think of my vehicles, but lately I have been wondereing how some of those guys I see driving their Kia Optima's and Chevy Equinox's must feel...no smiles there..just a utilitarian not-happy glassy-eyed expression.

Maybe tow/haul is load sensitive? Or rather, load activated?

16.1 regularly for me according to the guess-o-meter on the dash.

So I was looking at the gauges yesterday. With tow/haul turned on, the RPMs were just under 1800, set 1775, when driving down the flat interstate at 70mph. When I arrived, the never correct dash computer displayed 19.3 mpg. Based upon the most likely wrong but good for comparison dash readings, I have to say that the Tow/Haul does not hurt my MPG at all...seems actually to help it a little bit. Weird but maybe there is something about getting up to highway speeds quicker. Now if I was 80% city driving, most likely would hurt.
