What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Thanks. I'll keep messing around with it and see if I can come up with something that I like. I took a look at the Cali Raised brackets for the tacoma. It does look like it could work if you trimmed the bezel to fit the oval shape of our bumper.

 

@Kimosabe, the Cali raised was so close to working, I just didn’t like the gap. Eventually I’ll get tired of the current setup and do something else or buy a front bumper one.If anybody has a hookup to cutout a new face plate, like with a water jet or something, you’d be in business. Thanks a lot Toyota for sticking us with weird shaped fog light holes.

 

Side note on hiding license plate. Someone scraped pics from an eBay listing for a truck I sold in 2018-2019. About 14-18 months later, suddenly a very similar looking truck with my old tag number was photographed running several toll lanes in Florida. I found out when they sent me a stack of fines in the mail. The truck pictured is the same make/model of truck as mine with same tag. Even though I cancelled the registration and still have the original tag in-hand, they absolutely refused to dismiss the fine.

They checked DMV in my state who confirmed the registration was cancelled, but they kept citing matching license plate and make/model while pushing back. I did everything they told me over the course of 6 weeks of pain: Reported tag stolen, even though I had it in hand, got police report during pandemic (total PITA) and delivered it. Went to DMV to get a list of all registered vehicles at my address and under my name to prove I don't have that make/model of truck, nor any vehicle with that tag. Filled out some tag surrender form and gave tag to DMV.

They were still coming at me thinking I'm lying, and I was days from being turned over to collection, wasn't willing to spend $$ on a lawyer to fight it when it was less than $100 in fees. So I finally coughed it up.

Short story long, never visibly post your license plate on enthusiast forums and in public sales. You too could be victimized like I was.

Yes, I know. There is NOTHING stopping someone from walking out on a street looking for your make/model/color of vehicle, jotting down the plate, then getting a re-pop made online for $20/shipped. But the reality is, why would any scummy con bother when they can sit their lazy ass in a chair and hit eBay, CL, or an enthusiast forum like this one?

Does the rear bolt go into the bottom adjust hole or somewhere up top? In your second pick it looks like it's on top. I think I could live with that gap, or cut the existing bezel so that it slides over/around the cali bracket. I'm buying some.

 

@Kimosabe, I honestly don’t remember man. I’m pretty sure it bolted in on top on my Tacoma I had but it’s been awhile . You could probably rotate it and use the adjustment slot to make a pretty solid mount.

 

I'll report back once I can mess around with them. Order says it's shipped.

 

Got a call from Fox. They're sending me the Taco lower coil mounts for my coilovers. I'm excited to hear that. Hopefully I have enough space to get them in without raising my front end up.

Not the kind of service I expected from them but I'm happy they're making it right now. If my faith is fully restored with them who knows, I may even buy some 12" rears and leave those odd 11" rears I have on my shelf.

 

Anyone know fox model numbers for 1st Gen Tundra? Colton has my tacoma shocks on order but wasn’t sure on the first gen tundra side.

 

Front coilovers or rear shocks? They have a few options but I would recommend buying from Fox directly and asking for the Tacoma spring perches to be installed on them.

I think both, 158k on stock shocks means start fresh right?

 

Shocks have a life span of about 60-80k miles. You don't notice how bad they've gotten until you swap em out for new. So worth the money.

 

Performance shocks like the fox/icon/ etc tend to be 30-60k compared to the non rebuildable shocks tooo

 

I've wondered about this. I recently replaced the shocks and struts on our Rav4 at 135k. It rides about the same as it did on the old shocks. I wonder if modern shocks are lasting longer?

 

I’m planning to go nuts w Tundra suspension since it’s all super old parts and probably looks better lifted and then keep things under control Tacoma-wise since it’s more of a daily.

 

I have always done the bounce test. Bounce the vehicle and if it bounces a lot, time for new shocks. If it kind of bounces once and settles, shocks are fine.

 

Definitely doesn’t seem to bounce much. I wonder if maybe they got replaced at some point.

 

Been getting hot hot hot out here in West Texas and I’ve been noticing my A/C starting to blow room temp at idle.

I borrowed a set of hoses from my neighbor and it was at around 285psi on the high side and 27 on the low. For reference, the FSM recommends 227 max.

I have no idea how it got that way but I was able to purge a little off the low side and now my ac is blowing between 39 & 41deg.

 

Might not be bad. The mileage stuff isn't the best gauge. A truck that stayed on streets at 150k miles will have better suspension than one that hits trails every weekend or a work truck at 100k miles.

My wifes Element is over 200k miles and original shocks are still good.

 

But I want to blow cash, wah. You guys won’t let me do foolish stuff.

I did overpay for OEM tie rods at least.

 

Found crossbars to put on the roof rack track I installed the other week. I wasn't going to get them this quick, but I have a kayaking camping trip planned this weekend. What really tipped me over the edge on buying them was a coupon code I snagged online.

 

Interesting, button shapes changed with ‘03-‘04. Guess i need a bezel with electronics too.

So yesterday I did some kanoodling with my exhaust, opened up Moses exhaust works one more time.
First I cut a 90 in half, and then started mocking them up where I wanted it to point( my exhaust is pretty loud and I think it’s been reverberating back and forth tween the road and the bed, I’ve also seen, heard, and felt a weird shift hunt when I give it gas) so just by turning them to go straight back, more or less, I’ve got a little less in cab noise along with less of what I guess is a drone noise? But also in my short drive to and fro work, I noticed less rpm hunting/humps when I gave it gas. I also haven’t shut down the fab shop; concentric reducer cones should be here before the weekend(2.5-2”) I should have ordered eccentric reducers buts that’s a story for a different day. I reset my battery/ecu tonight, so we will see how it takes to the million dollar modification!

 

I will probably build 4 of these mounts; so if your interested PM me. This is for a double cab with abs.
Should have plenty of good hood clearance and I will route my intakes inside the passenger footwell.


probably 3 legs down to the mounts that the ABS mount uses, and a 4th to the bulkhead fitting on the firewall. I’ll cut a plate tomorrow and start fabbing up legs and ears
