I messed up. Installed led map lights but broke off a piece of the tab that holds one of the the bulbs in.

Any suggestions on how to fix? I still have the broken piece.

no i did not disconnect the battery first. never thought that would be required just to change a bulb. lesson learned.

I did something similar trying to replace the stock halogen bulbs with LED bulbs.

The front two LED's were easy to replace, but the rear two not so much.

I actually ended up buy, used, an entirely different roof console.

I know, not the answer you want to hear.

Also, I left the halogen bulbs in the rear section and only changed the front to LED's.

Are you sure you broke the tabs? A lot of (myself included) pushed out the bulb socket and had to pull the console down and just reseat the socket. Simple fix.

Edit: sorry didn’t read you have the missing piece.

    This sounds like a $3,782.77 dealer repair…

Without seeing the break, can't help you much. Most the light socket electrodes in cars are brass or tinned copper, you should be able to solder it to some extent depending on the break. But, getting solder to behave the way you want it too takes some experience.

Theres also other options if you don't mind alternative solutions. Take a pic of the damaged socket and I'm sure we can help you out more.

I think I pushed the sockets up into my overhead console the bulbs wont seat properly. Do you have any advice on how to take the console down to check ?

Think I found some info - gonna give it a shot this weekend if time allows.

Glad you found the post. Taking the roof console down is pretty easy - there are 4 (I think?) screws to remove and one small connector. Once it’s down just reseat the light socket and you are good to go. Takes about 5 minutes
