Been driving Toyotas for years, just retired from the military, so I figured I'd buy a truck that would make my Michigan family proud... so I got an AT4. Not a bad truck, super fancy with butt coolers, cameras, and all, but it's not a Toyota. After 2 decades in the military, my addled brain seeks utility and simplicity that GMC doesn't offer anymore. Good looking rig, but will it drive more than 200k with the new AFM? I don't want to find out.

    20210330_082434.jpg

Anyway... 24 and a wake-up until I'm back in a Toyota. I've had two 4Runners, one Tacoma, and now I've got one of the last V8 Tundra's. Got it in lunar rock too, so I'm pretty pumped. Now I'm here trying to find the best front facing cam mod, since that's one aspect of the GMC that I enjoyed. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free. My local car audio shop said they don't know of any products, and that they've never done an install.

    Thanks for having me fellas!

I hate the idea of losing physical HVAC controls. 360 was nice, but I really didn't use the side cams at all. The front cam is very helpful, but in my experience (pavement 99.9% of the time), only the front cam is useful.

@TundraTex makes the frac harness. Buy that and a nakita camera from Amazon and you have a forward facing camera. Many of us have done the mod and it works really well.

A number of my customers have had 3rd-party stereo shops install their FRAC Harness for them. From all the feedback I’ve received it was an easy installation for them. Of course there are also a lot of guys who have done the installation themselves as well. You can find a lot of info on that here in the FRAC threads.

The FRAC harness maintains OEM functionality for the reverse camera while providing anytime viewing of the front or rear camera and a Vehicle In Motion control function for data entry on the move.

If you have any questions I’ll be happy to answer them as will lots of others here who are always willing to chime in!

Thanks for your service to our country, and Welcome.

    Lou

I'd been lurking the forums for a couple days, and the FRAC certainly stood out as the best option. Thanks to all the folks that took the time to read my content and offer some advice!

    @TundraTex , I'll be contacting you soon!

Last week i was walking out of a mcd's and saw a newer silverado idling with the hood up. Irritated guy standing near it. Asked him what's up? He says truck says it's overheating. And it's a '21 iirc. Comes over and looks under hood while i'm next to it and after a moment says 'aha! no belt!' Sure enough there's a pulley with nothing on it.

Must've gotten something wedged in there and it broke i offered. 'Not likely, i JUST picked it up from dealer who did some work'. Asked what they did.

    You get one guess.

    Ready for this?

    Almost brand new truck.

I had the same thing happen with my 3/4 ton GMC Suburban. Both the overheating and the broken belt. Put three $1200 radiators in that boat anchor.
And the FRAC harness from @TundraTex is the best. The only difficult part is taking the wires through the firewall. Best mod ever.

I have a 2007 duramax work truck. The truck was cutting out on acceleration and the Chevy dealer said that it needed a new fuel injection pump, not cheap. We diagnosed it and found that they had changed the fuel filter but failed to remove the previous o-ring. So there were now two o-rings stacked up. I never took it back to them.

My adaptive cruise control stopped working on the AT4 on the way to the dealership after a software update. That truck has 6300 miles on it, and I guess since it was still running well, they had to try to break it remotely. You folks have no idea how glad I am to be back!
