Hey everybody, I’m new and looking fo advice for my 2006 access cab

I know there’s no perfect lift kit out there, but I’m looking for a true 4” kit that’ll give me the best ride and cost is not an option for my truck. Can anyone help?

I’d have stuff to contribute if you were looking for off-road upgrades, but I know nothing of 4” for height lifts. But I someone else will know.

 

For ur info, I’m trying to figure out this forum considering I’ve never done one, without giving too much info. Not sure nowadays what can be trusted. Since, you feel the need to know to help with a question. My name is Dwayne I’m in law enforcement and I live in the south. Is that good enough or do I have to give blood?

We have several LEO's and prior military on the site. Most of the active folks are just fine saying where they're from. There are even meets in some parts of the country where there are multiple members.

It's perfectly acceptable to keep identifying info private. You can use a fake name, or no name. You don't have to provide anything but pics of the truck. We are like kids and love pictures. This forum is generally pretty good people with a smattering of asshats and assholes. Being LEO(thank you), you should be able to handle it in stride.

Giving blood probably won't be required, but @bmf4069 might require snuggles or spooning. At least he likes to be the little spoon, though.

I’m gonna look at editing my profile to add more info to help others feel better about helping me. I’ve done a lot of research, but it seems everywhere I look, the rcd kits aren’t available anymore. Nope, no blood! You can give us all fake info; we just like pretending any time we invest is in a potential friend! The reason behind asking what region is, sometimes you’ll get more specific advice like good sources of parts, or a trustworthy shop, etc.

If no one else helps you out with info on a 4” lift (this is me bumping you back to the top of the page), I’ll try harder to help you by searching, myself.

Anyway… I checked back because I realized I probably came off as harsh. But, see, it’s Friday, and no one’s posted a poll or Ford thread we can go sideways on, so….

Hey he stuck around for more than the first post! Alright!

Usually I ask a few questions before giving any advice or suggestions.

What condition is your truck in? Is the undercarriage rusty? Are the joints looking beat? How are the brakes? This is all stuff to look into before lifting and adding bigger tires and additional stress.

Once thats okay, decide what you want out of your truck. If you plan to tow anything, soft flexible suspension is not going to work. If you want to go off road a bit on weekends then it depends what kind of terrain you're looking to conquer.

Why 4"? Do you have a specific tire in mind you want to fit? 2wd or 4wd?

If you're set 4" that then the RCD cradle lift is your best bet. It isn't the most popular style of lift but those who have it don't have problems from it. There are one or two other brands of cradle lift but their means of spindle extension are questionable.

If you have 2wd and don't necessarily need 4" there are options to swap to different shocks and springs along with aftermarket upper arms. The total price would be a bit less than the RCD lift but you will max out at 3" of lift.

Depending on your interest we can go into detail.

I'm also chasing the 4 inch lift dream and as far as I can tell, you'll either have to get a 4 inch drop bracket lift for the front or a mix of suspension lift and body lift (ie: 2 inch suspension 2 inch body, or as I'm doing 3 inch suspension and 1 inch body).
The rear will either be an aftermarlet leaf pack or lift blocks or mix of blocks and add a leafs, etc.

This should put you in the right direction for research, OP.

Just a heads up, very few 1st gens on here run drop bracket lifts so you may be pressed to find someone with first-hand knowledge. A lot of us "lift" by having adjustable suspension/ shocks as TRDgen said.

I looked around and found this about the RCD kit. Maybe there's a few vendors with leftover inventory?



I think the other brand that offers drop bracket lifts is Tuff Country, and they have two options: a lift with longer spindles and one with a spacer that goes between the spindle and upper ball joint. If you get a Tuff Country lift, get the one with longer spindles.

Hey darkness, everything on my truck is in great shape. I kinda stay on top of that stuff. It has no rust anywhere, I use ceramic brake pads, I just replaced the axles and new 285 tires ( bfg’s ). It is 4x4 and plan on doing more off-roading when I retire in a couple of years. That’s the reason I’m doing research now.
The reason for a 4” is not to get the suspension in too awkward of a position and loose all of the great ride. I’m looking for something that’ll be a good daily driver and durable on trails.

 

I’m open to an adjustable suspension if I can get enough lift to clear 285’s which I just put on. I do like the look of the 4” lift.
