The family and I loaded up today to go camping for 4 days , stopped by a Catscale on the way out . I've never weighed my setup and was eager to find out where I stand . With all the talk about low payload I was nervous that I was overloaded . I'll attach a screen shot from the weigh my truck app . Also before we left I added another washer to my E2 weight distributing hitch because I felt that the rear end of the truck was squatting a little more than I would like . It was a slight increase in distributing weight onto the front axle of the truck . It's definitely reflected on the weigh #'s . I'll be removing the washer once we get home . I'll look Into air bags for next year to level out the truck to my liking.
Through in a pic of my trans temps while towing . Never got any higher than shown in the pic .
Trailer is loaded with our gear and food but water tanks empty. Truck has firewood and other gear in the box .

Trailers unloaded weight is 5450lbs with a 7000lb gvwr.
    The trucks gcvwr is 15.540lbs
Trucks front axle gawr is 4001lbs
Trucks Rear axle gawr is 4144lbs
    Trucks gvwr is 7198lbs .

Looks like I'm over payload by 400 ish pounds . But still under the gcvwr.

Anyone else feel free to chime in and share your thoughts and or questions .

Really need to load mine up with a week’s worth of gear and weigh it. I know I’m way over

Cool, I like seeing weights just for the heck of it. So if I read that right your truck in that setup weighs 7,660 pounds with the trailer attached?

Looks like that WDH is setup about correct as you are pretty balanced front and rear axle.

Yeah your are correct . 7660 with the trailer attached and truck loaded with family . Full tank of fuel , bed full of firewood and supplies . 462 lbs over payload

I tell my wife every trip, we gotta weigh this rig! I added sumo springs to bring up my rear a little with the WD added. I like the results

You’re under axle ratings, have fun camping. Maybe not put a load of firewood in the bed, only light stuff. I tow a 7K travel trailer (over 14K GCVWR) & am with in 100lbs of rear axle ratings. Have 30K towing already. I have found light WD bars work better on the Tundra, but you have to crank them to move weight forward. Not a fan of air bags etc., your only putting a bandaid on your problem IMO. Fix your WDH first or get a new one.
I did add Bilstein shocks, “E” rated tires & rear sway bar(best option for $) to assist in towing.
    Safe Travels!

Yep. Sounds about right. I was 7400lb on the nose with a GVWR of 7200. I have skids, big tires, dual battery, retractable cover, a Dometic fridge with slide, and a few recovery tools. Plus meager camping gear. By meager, I mean a tent and lightweight backpacking gear for our family of five.

I think any built truck on here is overweight, too. Built as in bumpers, armor, tires, rack, tent, awning, etc… Especially if you have a 38gal tank and travel with passengers.

The truck handled and stopped great. No squat either. I’m on pro shocks with coachbuilder +2 shackles in the rear. You’d never know driving it that we were north of GVWR. I figure if I hook up a boat and put everything in it instead of in the bed, I’d be sitting at near your weight with your camper.

I can’t tell you what to do. I will say I have mostly gotten over it. I do wish there were an easy way to cut weight. I can’t remove seats because we use them all. I can’t remove the spare because we venture off road so much.

Other than the official payload number on the door, the truck is pretty much perfect for me.

I was thinking about my trailer weight today while towing home. I had this thought, my truck is probably built better than my trailer. Id rather go over payload in the truck bed vs loading up the trailer more. Not advice, my preference

I agree , air bags would be a bandaid . I've got an E2 trunnion style 10.000lb rated WD hitch setup which is probably over kill for my setup but the ride quality is surprisingly good . The built in sway control is awesome. Also running stock size 10ply E rated tires already . The tires made a huge difference !
I'll just have to try and dial in the WD to be optimal .

What does your owners manual say about setting up your WDH? Does it go by measuring the front fender before and after to determine the setup?

    How did it tow?

I think your fine. Some mounty isn’t going to pull you over and question you about it.

Yes , the e2 owners manual says to measure front fender height to determine proper distribution .

Trucks tows great , much better than my previous 2015 Sierra 1500 crewcab 4x4 which had 1830 lbs of payload .

The Tundras got good power and braking . Can't complain about it really .

I’m not a towing expert by any means, but my experience has been that the change in front suspension height with wdh is a guide not a rule. I lessened the tension on my bars and it drives better, even though the front came up a smidge

Any way of transferring more gear from the truck to the trailer?

I had the same problem with my Jayco 287BHS. I was about 200 over payload but everything else was good. Ended up getting some big plastic tubs from Home Depot and putting my firewood in it so I could put the wood in the camper without tearing stuff up.

You probably already know this but try to get the tongue weight as close to 10% as possible for trailer stability reasons.

I need to weigh mine as I'm more than likely over. Mine is listed at 6600 unloaded with a 866 tongue weight so more than likely I'm over my truck's rating by some. I just haul it to the hunting property, leave it, then back home so it's not frequently towed and the only gear hauled is an air compressor that I put in the camper.
I'll still haul it with my tundra as it does the job spectacularly but I'd like to know exactly what I'm looking at

I plan to do this with mine one of these days. I'm mostly working off of estimates.

The dry weight of my trailer is just over 3600 lbs. I am estimating it at no more than 4200 lbs, fully loaded with gear, but with dry tanks. I do have a scale for the tongue, so I weighed that and was pretty surprised. The manufacturer claimed dry tongue weight was 495 lbs. When I weighed the tongue with my scale I was at 750 lbs, which doesn't leave much in the truck for people and gear. I had to do some reshuffling to get back within limits, though if I am honest with myself I am probably pushing over payload by at least a little bit. A cat scale could confirm that.
