SAVE THE TUNDRA V8

I leased a 17 Tacoma with the 3.5 V6 that was all hyped up. It didn’t deliver. The 4.0 V6 which is still in production would have been better. My 2020 Tundra is also a lease and still have 2 years left so I will decide then what I will do. As for electric vehicles, nothing is for free. They keep telling people how great it is but never talk about the ramifications about producing lithium batteries. Just like solar power, here in Florida you can’t go just solar. FPL makes you stay hooked up to the grid and not to mention they already talked about raising the price of the kilowatt.

 

Electricity rates will go up due to more and more EV’s and eventually states will demand vehicle telemetry to assess road taxes. As a profligate speeder in my non truck vehicles: I DO NOT WANT THE STATE TO KNOW HOW FAST AND WHERE I DRIVE.

 

The whole point of EV is to get us give them a roof to put their solar panels, so they get free energy to charge all of us. And those ev battery cost 20k to replace

 

And driving your V8 Tundra 200,000 miles cost you $50000 in gas.

 

At lease I don’t have to fork out all at once

 

Yep. I'll gladly pay more in fuel to have a truck that just runs and doesn't give me any grief. I would much rather not go to the Ford dealer for recalls or issues they "can't duplicate".

 

If you can fork out $60+k for an electric truck hopefully you can afford a $20k battery after 15 years of ownership. If you can't, you probably shouldnt have a $60k truck.

 

Some are crying about a $8,000 transmission that might go bad...

 

Over how many years do you think that's going to take. I adopted a 5.7 V8 because it is reliable and fun to drive. If you look over at California, when they go through their rolling brown outs, they prohibited the charging of electric vehicles. They made it so you could not drive your electric car.

They had a V6 in the early days, it wasn't good nor did it sell very well.

yeah I’d like an electric vehicle and all but I’d never have it as my only option of personal transportation for this very reason.

Modern day gas vehicles will have most of the tracking and monitoring battery vehicles will have. You won't get an option of tracking no matter which way you go... unless you stay with older used vehicles for the rest of your life.

 

I think they will. V8, TTV6, TTV6/hybrid

I don’t think we’re gonna see the v8 in the 2022. Just a hunch but I think we’ll see the twin turbo v6 and a hybrid option.

The hybrid option could deliver depending on setup. Nothing puts out better low end torque than an electric motor. But my guess is the hybrid will be a four banger

 

No way they putting a 4 banger in there, a truck need to do truck stuff. Even once in a while a 4 banger hybrid can’t handle any truck stuff.

 

You remind me of the peak oilers who have been claiming oil will run out in the 1990s.

 

This thread is part of the reason I bought a 2021 Tundra last year instead of holding out any longer for the redesign: I feel like enough Tundra enthusiasts are also partial to the V8 that I'll never have a problem selling it should I decide to buy newer. I'm more of a Toyota guy than I am partial to the V8 necessarily. That said, the V6 in the FJ was significantly underpowered in my opinion, but it did the job as an off-roader.

Because offering options to consumers costs the manufacturer more money. Makes the assembly line more complex, makes dealer orders more difficult, etc. And I'm not 100% on this, but I believe large drivetrain differences within the same model require separate crash test certifications too.

 

I remember hearing that crap back in elementary school. By the way, according to my teachers growing up, the 2022 Tundra and all other cars should be able to fly.

But other truck manufacturers like Ford offer multiple types of engines for their models and it seems to be fine so I still don’t really understand how Toyota can’t do the same. We all know both engines will definitely sell no problem so to a dummy like me it looks like their just leaving profit on the table.
Not trying to argue, hopefully this doesn’t come off that way. Haha

 

Electric cars aren't the answer, especially up here in Canada. When the weather reaches -40 only combustion vehicles will be running. (Don't worry about the conversion, it's the same) Plus we have large distances between cities and towns in the prairies that range becomes a huge issue.
