Official Tundra Exhaust Setups - Sound Clips and Info

Hey everyone! New to the forums

sorry as I know this topic is covered everywhere lol! And I’ve read through most of them but here’s my deal... after all the research, spoke with Keith at dirty deeds, amazing dude!! I’m ordering today and kind of settled on the 7” as I want to hear it while driving but not be too loud but not quiet I’m just curious as I’ve seen a couple good clips of the 7” but can never find them again?

I tow a small enclosed trailer randomly for the dirt bikes and once every couple months for work. I have 2 kids etc so Keith originally recommended the 8” but after I told him I want to hear it a little more often than some guys say they hear the 8”, we agreed on the 7”! I’m super stoked just curious on sound on 7” vs 6” or 8”

What do you mean by budget system with resonator? That's the normal Bamuffler??

Just put had a Carven TR muffler welded on in place of the stocker, and I think it sounds fantastic! I'll have to get some interior clips of driving, but it's hardly noticeable when cruising, which is nice.

 

Need some clips of stainless works. I'm stuck between them and budget dump from dirty deeds

 

this comparison is apples to oranges. The stainless works system is headers, mid pipes, catback, etc. where our budget dump is intended to run stock manifolds and stock mid pipes.

Yeah I was originally looking at your long tube headers and 6" or your budget dump system. I just wanted to hear the difference between the two.

When using long tube headers, you really should do the full race system. It’s engineered to compliment the headers.
The dual budget system or the 6” are meant to be used with stock exhaust manifolds.

Will I pass emissions with a full race system?

 

Keep the factory cats and it shouldn't be a problem. Pima just does an OBD check, right?

 

I don't know exactly, when I take my runner it's a hit or miss if they hook up the smog tester.

 

When I was living in Phoenix all they did was an OBD check, but that was 9 or 10 years ago. If you keep the factory cats, it shouldn't be an issue. Keith can weld your factory cats into custom mid pipes for the long tube headers. I actually just sent him a deposit to get started on my system last week.

 

I think I'm just going to go with the 6" muffler. I want the race setup but I already fear my wife is going to hate how loud the 6" will be.

 

I'd call him and talk with him. He can do custom sizes as well. No matter what you do, you can't go wrong with giving Keith your money. I had the 8" on my last truck and sold it to a friend who just bought his first Tundra recently (he loves it). If I didn't want long tubes, I'd be having him make me another one, but a 7" this time around (I had him spec the TRD replacement muffler to match what a 7" would produce as far as volume).

 

I love the features on the 2022 tundra, but it will never sound like this. Just upgraded and haven't turned on the stereo in 3 days.

 

Thoughts about this one? I'm bringing it to the market, brand new. So far I've received very positive feedback, let me know what you think (even though videos don't do it justice).

thanks for this, I’ll be doing the same setup. Y pipe from the cats into a single carven TR muffler.. I went with 2.5” for the muffler.. will tie it back into the stock tail pipe. DD exhausts are very nice no doubt about it.. but no way I’m spending $2K on an exhaust when I can get a muffler and y pipe and still be under $500 installed.. just my .02

 

Best advice I can give to anybody running stock exhaust manifolds. Keep a single exhaust. Keep a 2 3/4” tailpipe. Use a flow thru type muffler with a smooth transition y pipe.

dual exhaust loses low end torque and makes 6th much less used. Takes away quite a bit of the driveability of your truck. There is no exception to this rule.

You’re literally paying $500 to lose power. 2.5” is too small. For the same money we can custom size a muffler as far as length as diameter so the sound is exactly what you want. And we have second to none advice since you can call and speak directly to the engineer (me) instead of guessing, or talking to the sales rep of a Chinese importer.

why short change yourself. $500 is a lot of $ to spend and mess up your exhaust.

 

Anyone just replace the stock muffler with a good ol' glasspack?

I did that with a Ram 1500 hemi and a Tahoe and the sound is perfect to me. Under $200 at Meineke Muffler.

 

Two problems with glass packs:

1. The louvered core upsets the exhaust flow. It needs to be smooth inside. Perforated core makes more power all around.
2. Every glass pack I’ve ever seen has the same 2” core, then they just weld on a same size, or bigger nipple. So on top of being an uneven surface, it’s also restricted down to 2”

Got my Dirty Deeds Industries straight pipe system installed, and it is awesome! Very happy with the sound. There's a bit of a drone, but so far not annoying to me. I'm going on a road trip to the family cabin Saturday through the Idaho mountains, so will see how annoying it gets with the radio on.

I produced a video and the look on my face when I stomp on it to get to speed is priceless, lol. It sounds awesome! Like an old school muscle car with glasspacks. The quality of the exhaust is definitely above average and beyond what the local muffler places produce.
