So my 12v usb outlet that connects my iPhone to CarPlay stopped working. I'm assuming it is a bad connection as it doesn't charge the phone either.

The cables are good - I tried two, and they both work in the adjacent 12v USB sockets.

soo... how do I open up that portion of the dash and get a look at the connections?

If it's easy, I'll investigate this weekend, if it's major disassembly, I'll visit the dealer as I'm under warranty.

On bright side, I discovered that the built in Nav is actually pretty good. I might even prefer it to apple maps. (not a high bar, but still a pleasant surprise)

    bump for the desperate.

How do I pull that connector out of the dash to check the connections?

are they factory Apple cables ? also did you update your iOS to latest or did you recently update.
I doubt on a 2020 the connector is bad. Do you have a way to test carplay with your phone in a different vehicle ?

Did you try forcing a hard restart of the radio by holding down the power button? My Car Play was a bit finicky a month ago.

No... didn't know that was a thing. I'll do that tonight after work.

It's not very difficult to remove that piece, but I don't think it will tell you anything. There is a harness connection that plugs into the back of the port. I'd let the dealer handle it.

The one thing I WOULD check would be fuses.

So that did the trick! I'm going to guess that there is some sort of mini-breaker in the circuit somewhere, and it must have reset when powered off?

I have a feeling that it has more to do with authentication of the device. At first I thought that it was an issue with my iphone not accepting the connection. I did not suspect the head unit until it started refusing to charge my phone. I have not had an issue since doing the hard restart of the head unit.

I am running into an issue where I cannot change the volume when carplay is running. The problem happens most of the time (sometimes the volume will work with no issue).

For context, I did install this Carplay adapter:

I went from an XS max to a 12 Pro max recently and there have been a few different issues with the new phone and the HU. I honestly think that Apple is half the problem and everybody else is just throwing darts. It reminds me of the whole Firewire fiasco.

This may help someone. The VPN I use suddenly began causing issues with connecting to CarPlay. After troubleshooting for a while, I turned off the VPN connection and it connected consistently after that.
