Anyone use OEM AUDIO PLUS?

Doing a little research I found out that tundras with a JbL audio system is hard to replace. The amplifier under the passenger seat has a lot to do with the steering wheel controls etc. for the radio. OEM audio plus offers an option that cost $1000 that comes with 4 tweeters, an amplified subwoofer and a unit that helps with the clarity. It still uses the factory amplifier but it supposed to give you much more clarity and better sound. I was thinking of pulling the trigger but wondered if anybody else has bought it and has thoughts about it? JBL system in my platinum just doesn’t do it for me.

 

Great question, I'm curious about this as well. Hopefully someone with this setup will chime in with their thoughts.

I just ordered the JBL replacement sub and box from tech12volt and from what I hear its a great upgrade for the price. Problem is my son has a Sundown Audio 18" sub and 3000w amp in his Sequoia, which I have to listen to way too often, so I have a feeling I'll be wanting something more before too long. Not that I want that sort of silliness in my Tundra, but I'm sure once I get a little more bass I'll want a better overall setup. tech12volt has some fairly plug-n-play systems for our trucks as well, but the OEM Audio Plus system looks pretty interesting also.

 

I believe @BenAZ was running this and had one for sale recently. He may be able to give some feedback.

 

I've replaced everything on my non-JBL 2014 SR5; HU, speakers, amp, subs.
The underseat OEM amp has nothing to do with the steering controls.
You'd need an iDatalink Maestro to retain steering wheel controls with an aftermarket HU.
That has no connection to the underseat amp, steering wheel controls come from the OEM Entune receiver/HU.

That stated, I researched the OEM AUDIO PLUS systems in detail when I was trying to figure out what direction I wanted my audio upgrade to go.
The factory amp is sh!t, there is no reason to keep it.
It is made to make the factory 2 ohm, 4 ohm, and 6 ohm dash and door speakers and that crappy OEM sub sound good.
You'd be disappointed if you kept it.

The reviews I read about the OEM AUDIO PLUS were that it lacked in bass/sub response.
I don't need ghetto blasting thumping, I just want strong CLEAN bass in my truck.

Keep researching it, I might me exactly what you need.
But any system that uses the stock amp is going to leave you wanting more..IMHO

Nice! So you went with the double subs? How much did that run you? Did you install it yourself? Did you keep the factory speakers and just replace the four tweeters? Any sort of input would definitely help me make my decision easier. Thanks a lot

I think it was about $1400 for the system with two subs. Yes, just the 4 tweeters and dual amplified subs. I installed my self which is pretty easy and strait forward if you are handy with basic tools. If you go OEM Audio I would definitely recommend dual subs. One was ok, but two really added that extra depth and balance. Sound-wise its very crisp clear sounding system. I’m a musician and somewhat of an audiophile so I like to hear all the subtle nuances in the music. This will definitely get you that. Clear defined highs and punchy lows with smooth midrange. If your looking to blow the neighbors roof off I will honestly say it won’t do that. If you just like to hear your music and enjoy it at a clear defined reasonable level -(ok, crank it sometimes!)- it will definitely give you that.

I mostly listen to rock, metal, progressive rock/metal, and reggae.

 

Correct. I had the 450Q system in my '16 Double Cab. It is still for sale, and I am willing to ship as well (shameless plug). It lives up to its name of OEM+. More of a full sound with much more clarity and more bass than factory. If you want a no cut moderate upgrade that will improve sound quality and still shake your seat but not your neighbors house, I'd definitely recommend it.
