What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

just ordered 2k clear and a couple rattle cans to tackle repairing the hood of mine this weekend, I wouldn't hate doing something like this on the whole truck either but $50 on a "band aid" for the paint will get me a little further down the road until I'm ready for something like that.

 

It looks like your truck is the elusive Timberland Mica which is my favorite color they made in the 1st gen. They only offered it from 05-06 and I've not seen more than 1-2 in person. Post up some pics please!

Definitely will do, my wife is going to her sisters this weekend leaving me with munchkin but I'm an earlybird and the kid sleeps til 8. I figure friday after work I'll create my Dexter-esque "paint booth" inside the garage and get the wet sanding done, paint layer 1 before breakfast and 2 during saturday's naptime, will evaluate if there is a need for a layer 3 before clear goes on after bathtime saturday night. Hoping not to screw this up too badly as this is my first attempt at something like this, there will be plenty of youtube and test prior to sending it. I will be practicing on an old 8 ft jon boat my dad gave me some years ago just to see how it lays down, distance from surface to avoid drips etc. If all else fails and I absolutely hate how it comes out I'll just pull the hood off sand the bejesus out of it and take it to a body shop for a proper correction. TBH anything will be an improvement to its current condition I should have done this 2-3 years ago.

 

Dedicated last night and this morning to getting the old girl clean again. It was by far the dirtiest it's ever been on the inside at least.
I vacuumed the interior, then wiped everything, and finished it off with shampooing the floors and seats. I feel much better now

I also finally removed my 3" cat back and installed my DirtyDeeds exhaust. My bottom end power is back and the truck doesn't downshift on the slightest incline like it used to. It's a good feeling and it sounds good too. I'll miss my exhaust cutout though.
I've put about 500 miles on the exhaust now.

 

Make sure whatever rattle cans you’re using aren’t enamel based paint. 2k will eat right through it if it is.

 

Also, not trying to be preachy, but at minimum, get yourself a harbor freight respirator if this will be in the garage. It also helps if you rig up some sort of box fan exhaust system as seen below.

 

I appreciate all of this! I did a lot of demo/renovation projects on my rental property so respirator is definitely going to see some use. I like your setup and those puzzle piece mats are a great idea! Is the cardboard on the garage door to test spray or to fill and clear lines? This has me thinking maybe I should just spend my time cleaning and organizing the garage to be a clean space and save the project for next weekend, maybe pull the hood/fender flares off and do it up right instead of just trying to band aid it. Then maybe try to color match my camper shell instead of just continually plasti-dipping it.

 

Good to hear, I was surprised at how quickly my garage turned into a death trap. Cardboard was for testing spray patterns. The cleaner the area the better. It also helps if you do your prep sanding and any sanding between coats in another location. That’s why my floor was wet, I was trying to keep the humidity as high as possible to prevent any airborne stuff.

 

Today, I got a Viper alarm installed and got a quote for a timing belt and water pump replacement.

 

Did you do the remote start as well? We like ours on the 4runner

 

Nah, just the basic alarm with the starter kill. I do need to get a second fob though.

 

After doing some research on here about a clank when coming to a stop, realized I should give greasing the slip yoke a go. 74 pumps of my grease gun later grease came out...

Also need to order a new carrier bearing. That guy can move around with the slightest effort.

 

Finally got some injectors for the 12 hole upgrade. Free.99. Going. To have them flow tested and cleaned. Thanks engine replacement jobs!

 

Nice. Those are one of the few remaining items on my short list of things to replace. I cringe at the thought of spending $350 on them though.

Just finished installing rails on my camper shell. It was a PITA to get everything symmetrical.

Now I can't decide on what I want to put in the rails. Either solar panels or an overland style basket. Any opinions?

 

DIY prinsu style racks are the neat looking ones... that dont really hurt aerodynamics too much

 

Make brackets for everything. A basket; solar panels with a way to angle em; a couple beach loungers; stripper pole. The options are endless, some might require additional bracing.

 

That's definitely what I had in mind as well. I have been looking into the most quiet ones.

I'll definitely have to look into a good looking way to make compatible brackets. It would be real neato to have both the basket and solar panels.

I kept my rails within the thicker structure of the honeycomb, the outside edges weren’t as thick on my Snugtop

I watched out for that myself. The rails were still on the thicker part of my roof in my Raider shell. I wanted to line them up with that black trim that is on the trucks roof. Theoretically the rails will be able to support more weight closer to the edge. I'll have to snap a pic of the inside of the shell tomorrow.

I don't want to buy the rhino rack bars that go into the tracks. Has anyone used carriage bolts or something that work with the rhino rack tracks?

Hard to say, thats why I'm gonna hang onto the little moody bastard a while longer.

Really got an itch for the businessman car, the LS460. They could be had for under 25k pre-covid but now I can't find a good one for less than 35k.

 

Dad got his q45 right before the snap. ‘02 with 150k miles fir $5k. And no hard feelings that he paid the selling dealer to do the starter. I oughtta do the radiator today.

 

I see two of the LX460's on Carmax for 21k and 26k. I can honestly say I didn't know which car that was. They look sharp. I've always liked the Lexus IS350's too. Wish they came in a manual transmission.

I'd prefer the 2015 but not opposed to that model at all. They're classy, something I wouldn't bother to mod beyond tinting the windows. Maybe throw dual spintechs on, who knows. Last year I rented a small suv to drive to San Francisco and realized how nice it is to ride in a comfortable car. Not a truck on coilovers and e rated tires or a lowered hatchback that never stops bouncing.

My cousin has an older IS300 with the manual trans. It was clean before he got it and threw on a mild body kit. He keeps saying he wants to sell it to buy a 4runner so if he does I may buy that and sell the GTI. I always liked the square IS style and with the manual trans and 2jz motor its almost like a 4 door supra.
