2022 Tundra

Looks like Chevy can be added to the list of overheating and no trans cooler. Truck overheated on TFL like the ford. I’ll be curious to see if they do a Ram, tundra, and Titan to compare all 5 of them

That is nuts. I am not one that has worried about the trans cooler on the tundra. Mostly because it has 6 speeds. But for chevy to ditch it on a 10 speed is crazy. The closer the gears are together the more shifts that will happen.
Maybe thats not how it works but that is my understanding. Heat comes from strain and shifting.
Maybe it is a way to sell more hd trucks. I hope that the new tundra has a trans cooler with that 10 speed

I'm bad at judging bed sizes from pictures, can someone tell me if that looks to be a 5.5' or a larger one? Based on comparing to a 3rdr gen, the body panel in front of the wheel arch looks way bigger, seeming to indicate a 6.5'

 

I can already hear the payload complaints with a new even heavier crewmax lol

 

Interesting that the crewmax with the shortbed has tow mirrors, but the 6.5' bed crew has standard mirrors

 

I'm sure they're just testing many options, likewise the interior layout shots we've seen - as test beds, they will probably have multiple setups with various different configurations in them.

 

Like stated above half tons are becoming watered down. People are buying them for grocery getting, kids hauling and Commute to work. People don't buy cars anymore they buy trucks and those people are what's driving the half ton market..ditch the trans cooler to give these people more tech elsewhere in the truck.

Those who work there trucks are shifting over to hd trucks, if you are working it hard that's what's going to hold up.

It will be interesting to see who they aim the new tundra towards, my guess is those who are not working it hard, which will lead people towards hd trucks. Which is a movement we are already seeing on the forum.

 

agree 100%. plus the USB location will leave the cord hanging out in the middle of everything.

it looks like they are going with the 300 different materials again, yuk.

 

I hope its not, thats a hot mess around the head unit and way too many varying materials all over the place, also looks like we are still going to be blinded by the bling

 

It is, MIL has the new style though too. Hate the screen, looks like a 5 year old tossed it in. Prefer the classic interior, and then on top of that I prefer the Tundra interior. It's personal preference on button locations, and for all 3 trucks being mid-grade don't notice any differences in interior materials. Go to the upper trims and that's where Ram shines, not so much on button placement and such but it's in the materials.

I just don't see Toyota stepping up on the materials that much. Fit and finish will still be top notch, but even if they crank it right up with the new top trim line (Capstone IIRC) there's quite a ways to Ram's top trim.

 

You’re right about personal preference. I’ve always felt the screens that sick up above the dash look like after thoughts . Like they didn’t have enough room to put the screen so let it stick up like that . lol

 

I just kind of glanced at the interior shot when it first popped up, but I've looked a little closer and had a few thoughts. Dangerous thing for me, and my head hurts now, but still.

Items below by number

1. Is that a thumb groove in the wheel? Are they going for a more ergonomic wheel? That'd be a nice improvement over the current iteration, IMO. Looks like there aren't tons of buttons on the front of the wheel either. Did they maybe move some radio controls to the back of the wheel to get a more streamlined look/feel? Again, nice IMO if they did.
2. The shifter looks to be WAY more comfortable than the bland and boring one that is stock in most current Tundras. Again, it appears ergonomics might have been given some priority here. This is assuming that all trims have this shifter. I hope there isn't a cheesy version and a good one.
3. I know the middle switch is the hazard button, but did they put in some blank switches? That would be a great feature for lights, compressors, winches, etc. Even if it's an added cost option, I think it'd be another creature comfort that shows they have paid attention to what the current trucks are commonly used for.
4. Look how the dash protrusion seems to carry over on the passenger side, and there is a pretty solid indentation above it. Did they go with a dual glove box dash design? Added storage is seldom a bad thing.

 

So what exactly do you want to see from the engine that would be so ground breaking?

 

I believe that. Why do you think the biggest fuel tank you can get in a 1500 is 24 gallons (other than trying to game CAFE)?

 

450hp, 600ft/lbs torque, 30mpg mix during would be a good start

 

Maybe a stand alone option?

 

Payload increase.

 

How do you know it won't have that?

 

Pretty sure you can get a 36 gallon tank on an f150. Not sure about Chevy or dodge

 

Yeah, sorry, I was talking about GM specifically. They're the ones trying to force anyone who's actually working into an HD.

 

Ah gotcha. Yeah there’s not many 1/2 ton trucks working anymore compared to the past. Mostly 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

 

90% of tundra buyers will never put anything more than groceries or a bicycle in the bed. Toyota knows this.

 

Only working truck is the fleet truck, I never seen a platinum trim carry anything no matter how many ton those truck is rated for

 

It's a frustrating trend for me. I like the 1/2ton platform. I like basic amenities, a powerful engine and good off-road gear.
Unfortunately, OEMs have correctly identified that off-road gear is now "bling", and once trucks became expensive enough to require heavy loans, OEMs also realized consumers needed 4 door rigs because that's all they can afford once the prices of the fancy trucks get too high, hence why even Jeeps have 4 doors now. If someone like me wants a mid-level extended cab truck with good off-road gear, I'm s.o.l. and forced to consider some huge 4door with leather and sunroof at twice the price I would anticipate. I believe almost all truck manufacturers have made their good off-road gear only available on expensive 4 door shortbeds.

 

I'm looking forward to seeing the 6.5 crewmax....not sure if I'll want it after seeing it.
