I know bilstein and fox are popular...however semi local shop does toytec and dobinsons, with dobinsons as the recommended. I most likely be getting a stock 4x4 tundra and upgrading the suspension. Shooting for equivalent or better then the TRD Off Road. Is there a good article or series of videos that explaign the differences/pros and cons off these brands? I really know nothing of suspension other then the buzz words tossed out in marketing of trucks.

Just get an Ironman 4x4 lift and suspension kit. It's good quality stuff. 20% off sale right now too if I am not mistaken.

What are you looking to get out of your truck. Daily driver? Serious off-roading? Level? Full lift kit? The more info you provide the better the recommendations you will get.

Daily drive though I expect at least the TRD Off Road equivalent or extra money the TRD Pro equivalent. I get groceries...I go to work...I go fishing sometimes driving on non paved and uneven roads...I haul kayaks...Honestly the TRD Off Road would work. IF I could find one that is not all Black or almost 55/60k in my area. A tacoma TRD off road would work again if could find one I liked...I am not a fan of all black interior. So pretty much any TRD tundra is out currently.

I mean literally everything is black, seats, carpet, dash, console it is black. but yeah thought crossed my mind but doesn't help the suspension question.

I never thought I'd own a black interior, but it was the only option in the 2021 Platinum so that's what I went with. Wife had to have the ventilated seats. To GT87's point, it all depends on what you want to do with the truck. I've heard it a bunch on here, spend what you can afford to spend because you only want to "buy once, cry once".

    This. And also budget.
Wait... So you have an '07 currently and are just looking to replace your suspension components? Or are you buying a new truck? Apologies for my confusion here.

Might want to check out the Ironman thread. There have been some issues with the Foam Cell Pro coilovers here recently.

Thanks for the heads up! I did follow up and it appears there was issues but as I understand it there was also good customer support.

What's the budget? I just pulled the trigger on icon stage 8. I essentially do the same with my truck as you do with yours. I was looking for some added height and improved ride quality.

Are you after a lift, or a better ride, or some performance measure that is important to you?

My advice is keep reading the threads (look at suspension, but also wheels and tires in the Tundra Garage on this site) and start tracking what’s important to you. You should be able to narrow down a couple choices that way.

I commute, haul stuff, and then drive on logging roads and farmland regularly. Fall-thru-spring, I face heavy rain, snow, and ice.

I wanted to level the truck for mostly cosmetic purposes. I wanted beefier tires for both function and aesthetic. I wanted to end up with a better ride.

I upgraded to bilstein 5100’s on the middle setting to level, and it gave the desired stance and improved ride and handling. I chose 33” Coopers and got to drive them all over ice and snow and have been very pleased with them.

I have not done any serious off reading, so I cannot report on how the setup feels on that kind of gig.

I scoured the threads for 2 years. I asked a lot of questions, and on this site, no one was a dick about it, they just gave very honest feedback and recommendations based on their experiences. So don’t waste days waiting for that unicorn YouTube that answers your questions… it probably doesn’t exist. I say get into the forums and start asking questions.

    good luck!!

I’ll add that’s there’s specific threads for all options, Toytec, Fox, Billstein, Ironman, Dobensen, Aluma, Falcon etc. I’ve read a lot of them and there a very few complaints about any of them. Just depends on budget and what exactly you’re looking for.

    Toytec 2.0 Aluma 3/1.5 lift with JBA's UCA Falkens AT3 295/70/18
0424211438.jpg Depends on budget, what brand, application, and wheels/ tires combo..
I'm a big fan of Toytec, with JBA's UCA installed easy and alignment spot on..Wheels+25 offset with Falkens295/75/18s...Rides better than stock. Imho.
Do your research on the suspension threads of the forum and narrow down your choices.. Good luck

My wife took over the 07 I have a 17 F-250 that I am considering parting with and getting myself another tundra. I can find the non trd tundra's easier in my area...and thus I would need to beef up the suspension to at least the equivalent of a trd off road suspension.

Well hell… the TRD Off Road suspension is barely better than whatever entry level suspension your truck would come equipped with. For a few hundred dollars plus install costs you could get an entry level Bilstein setup that would do you just fine I think. No sense in spending a bunch of money to get something you don’t want or need.

If you want something entry level that would be an upgrade and won’t break the bank the Falcon kit that @MightyTundraGA is a good kit. Will have a good ride both on and off-road, and not have a ton of associated maintenance. It’s a sleeper kit for sure. A lot of folks don’t talk about them as they are relatively new to the truck game.

You can often buy the trd off road slightly used too. 20k miles on some shocks, not bad you would get another 3-5 yrs out of them probably. By that time the truck is hopefully paid for.
