I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
You spend a lot of time at 5600RPM? Because that’s where the 5.7L 3UR-FE is making 381hp.

No they do not. The seat heaters in my 2020 2500 HD will blister your rear end. The steering wheel heatwr gets crazy hot in about 60 seconds.....

400 torque at 3600 RPM. HP is Torque x RPM /5252. Low RPM's you don't get high HP.

Some of them make a lot more power under the curve before those 5000-6000 RPM peak power points.

The forced induction engines make considerably more power a lot lower in the operating range.

For example the 3UR-FE in our Tundra makes 275 horsepower at peak torque of 401lb-ft @3600 RPM. I think most of us can probably say that we rarely see 5600 RPM on the Tundra, aside from passing maneuvers or acceleration with a heavy trailer. That midrange of the engine is where we “live” with the truck, it’s where we do our driving.

Compare that with the V35A-FTS in the Land Cruiser (assuming we are seeing that in the Tundra). The peak horsepower of 409hp @5200 RPM is not drastically more than the 381hp @5600 of the 3UR-FE, and both are at an RPM range we don’t use all the time. The turbo V6 is making 479lb-ft from 2000-3600RPM, I don’t have a direct number at 2000RPM for the 3UR-FE but conveniently the new mill also makes peak torque up to 3600 RPM where the 5.7L V8 does as well. The turbo V6 is cranking out 328hp @3600 RPM. I think an extra 53hp over the current engine at an engine speed we all regularly drive in is pretty dang significant.

Not that my opinion changes much, but the method manufacturers utilize to express power output to consumers is not perfect. If I were able to change it I would have a dyno plot put on the sticker for horsepower and torque. Let people see what’s really going on, and what they can really expect.

I get it and have felt the same for years. But after the last year and half I realized that , IMO, it no longer really matters. Just get what you want from where ever and whoever and just try to enjoy life.

Only thing I have control over is myself, and how I react or respond to everything, lifes getting better with that outlook, for me at least.

Congrats @RLHOK the gm v8’s are really smooth, i had a 5.3 back in 2003 and it was really powerful. Nice lookin truck you picked up!

i think the hyper focus on turbo v6 vs v8 is missing the big point. I will guess that the new transmission is going to make a far bigger difference on the tundra than the engine will

Hell they could ditch the mechanical fan and slap a 10spd on the 5.7 and the majority of people driving one would think it was a completely different motor. It'd have a ton more perceived power and those 2 things alone would add several mpg.

The ram I drive for work is alot more pleasant to drive than my tundra simply because of the 8spd in it. Places my tundra would be flipping between gears trying to decide to lug the engine or wind it out the ram just settles in a gear in the sweet spot of the powerband and carries on. No manual mode or tow haul needed.

True, but the 401 ft-lb of torque comes on at 3,600 rpms on the 5.7. The 5.0 Ford max torque is 4,500 rpms. The 5.3 GM is 4,000. Splitting hairs, I know! ;)

    Even better...

Speaking of gearing I wonder if that will change with the TT3.5 w/tow package? While I would love to think it would, I have to think they will revert back to your standard 3.31 or whatever with those turbos and much different torque curve. Thoughts?

I'm hoping there will be a transmission temperature gauge with green, yellow and red zones so we can tell if it's good, caution or bad temperatures.

All of those are fairly puny in comparison to the V35A-FTS making 479lb-ft from 2000-3600 RPM’s. Also worth noting the Ford 3.5L EcoBoost makes 500lb-ft at 3100 RPM’s, and hybrid version pumps out 570lb-ft at 3100 RPM’s. If you want to do the math to double check me just plug in torque X RPM / 5252 to calculate horsepower at those RPM’s given the torque, but the difference between the turbocharged engines and the NA options is pretty significant.

For example at 3600 RPM’s the 5.7L in the Tundra is making 275 horsepower, and the new TTV6 is making 328 horsepower at the same engine speed. I am pretty sure I’d rather have the extra 53 horsepower, especially down where I am likely to use it more often.

Hmm that screen does not sit like the screen in the pro does. The pro's sticks up above the dash and this one sits more in the dash.

Kept the console shifter. I'd prefer a column shifter but it's better than a dial or buttons.

I don't think you checked out the context of my comment; we were talking about a member that sold their Tundra for a Ford, and then proceeded to come back to this forum constantly just to shit on the Tundra. This same person was pretty happy with their Tundra until they decided to buy a Ford. People are more than welcome to share every issue they have with their vehicle on here, that's part of the point of the forum so we can all learn about these issues - but to come onto the forum just to shit on the truck, after they sold theirs for a different brand is just poor form, and in reality just makes it look like they're unhappy with their current truck.
