1st gen cold air intake

Hi, I was wondering if any of you have put a cold air intake on your truck
And if so do you like it?
Did you notice a difference?
Why are the ones I have looked at so expensive?
And what have yall used?

The factory intake is the best one, believe it or not.

I have the K&N with the black tube and cone filter. Does give a slight bump in mpg on highways, other than that it just makes cool sounds. I haven't used it in years, I went back to stock.

I also have the airaid tube kit that connects to the factory airbox. Worthless. Makes a bit of noise and thats it.

Volant makes a true cold air intake but its no better than the factory air box. The surface of the filter is small so there is no real gain. All it does is opens a hole in the airbox where hot air from you enhmgine can get in. You can do that to your stock box for free.

 

@TBinky If you want to read more about them, try this thread. Personally, I think you'd be better off just making sure your truck is in tip-top mechanical shape instead of wasting money on a CAI.

But it's not as "cool" as a CAI, though...

 

There is no denying that the mighty 4.7 sounds viscious with a CAI (let's call it HAI) but not at all worth the price.

 

I have a Volant intake.. Hot air intake. It sounds cool, but it's extremely annoying while towing or on long highway drive that involves passing, hills/mountains. It will drone your ear out.

Wish I had a stock intake. Lost mine.

 

haters gonna hate. But, noticable difference. i didnt rebuild it after the header install. And ive got a couple templates made for the tundra, but ive gotta pull the airbox before i can finish.

 

CAI are a waste of money, spend your money on something that will truly benefit your Tundra.

 

I'm still trying to hunt down an air-aid intake tube for an 05-06 tundra. BUT that seems to be a pipe dream.

 

You should just reroute all of your a/c vents into that to make it the coldest air intake. Then we can call you Mr Cool Ice.

 

When i was running the aluminum tube i could wrap an ice pack around it, and the iat sensor. Really helped make the hill climbs around taos fun. Not srt4 fun, but more fun than a jeep is supposed to have on pavement.

I got one of those cheap vector Amazon cold air intakes on my truck, no complaints. Already have an exhaust on the truck so it did make it a little louder, pretty sure it increased gas mileage as well.

Hey There!

I just installed a Specter CAI on my Tundra. As far as noticeable changes there are none to power. However you get the cool CAI sound when you WOT.
The factory intake is great and I’m still holding on to mine. However I wanted the noise, I have money to drop, and it makes the engine bay look 1000 times better.

I picked my CAI up through AutoZone pretty cheap. Whatever way you go just remember it’s your truck and do/build what you like.

 

Thats a very impressive engine bay.

 

Do tell me more about the 05-06 mod

Thanks for posting. I am in agreeance with @FirstGenVol. I am of the opinion to keep these types of components stock and/or as close to OEM for the sake of reliability and drivability. I have previously installed intakes and K&N filters on my other vehicles and from those experiences I have now learned to resist the urge to fall for all the marketing wank this day and age. Do your truck a favor and stick with a
