If I bought the ridiculously expensive appearance package I would instantly post a trade thread and dump that tailgate for a normal one...that is if the normal ones were normal;)

If the current 9-10k lbs on a Tundra isn't enough towing for you then the new Tundra (or any other half ton) won't be much better. Sure it may get rated for more, but it's likely to go on a diet which will make it less confidence inspiring for towing big weights. I'd suggest moving up to a 3/4 ton if you're looking at towing 10k lbs.

Ahh, the 4.0 Taco…I have never had or since have owned a vehicle that was easier to change the oil/oil filter in. It was literally a 10 minute job. I miss the simplicity.

    So true!

Now I just bought a easy oil change drain plug and a screw in filter drain system along with a fancy funnel. Spent $60 just.to try and simplify things:D

The 10K works for me just fine, The payload, which is the Tundra deal killer for a lot of people towing travel trailers, is actually doable since I'm a minimalist as compared to the average travel trailer tower apparently. In a lot of ways I really like the current Tundra as I lean towards tried and true old tech. Two things make me hesitant to move on the current model. It is, by all accounts, a gas hog. And I'm not one to be a buyer wading into a seller's market. I can wait to see what the next gen of Tundra has to offer and I can wait for the market to stabilize a bit.

I did the same thing in '06, waited and waited for Toyota to finally show it's cards on the new Tundra. For my needs it wasn't adequate so I went with a '06 Dodge Ram with the Cummins. 230K miles later it's been a very good truck for me and I have little (some) doubt it'll continue to be a serviceable tow vehicle for the next few years. So I can wait.

I think of the current stable of available vehicles an F150 3.5 EB with the max tow package suits my needs the best but I do want to see the next Tundra before making any decision.

That would be epic. If they do that I’m buying one instead of a Tundra.

Also the 4Runner should get the V35A-FTS.

Just know that the 5.7 and the 3.5EB are going to get pretty close to the same fuel economy when towing.

Yep, if not a slight advantage to the Tundra. You hook up a tow to that EB and all bets are off. Fact. Would not stop me from owning one. But the electric issues will

I hope so. Purple in ancient times was a color for royalty.

So I need purple interior plastics to flex on the peasants and let them know my Tundra is practically royalty.

In fact I want a metallic purple paint option.

I just take the skid plate off and bring it to the dealership. :crapstorm:

I still think the Tacoma’s oil was even easier to change.

That's funny. I do this also. Make it as easy as I can for the Dealer monkeys. But now after buying those few things I'm doing my own. Sucks cuz I have lifetime oil changes from the dealer, but those idiots can't even change the oil correctly. So my OCD wins out and now it's on me

If gas guzzling is you're biggest worry - go HD again. Check out TFL's videos on gas mileage runs with F150's, you do have to do some digging to find them all with the 5.0, 3.5 EB, and 3.5 PB, but they show real world testing they all get the same fuel mileage. And the Tundra is right in that same area. You actually get better fuel mileage jumping up to HD gassers. Your '06 will actually get the best fuel mileage of any vehicle towing.

I'm still a believer that the best vehicles were made between 2000-2006, especially Toyotas.

Better mileage with HD gassers? It’s about the same from my experience and from what I’ve seen other people posting.

The 4th Gen 4Runner (the pinnacle of 4Runners) had the same engines as the Tundra at that time. So there is a precedent for a more powerful engine in a 4Runner than the current pathetic offering.

Not a fan of the 5th Gen 4Runner, it’s gutless and a step in the wrong direction. Make the 4Runner great again Toyota, start with 410hp and 480lb-ft of Freedom Eagles!

If the damn Ford Explorer can be had with 400hp, a 4Runner should have at least that much too.

I agree the 5th gen 4Runner is definitely underpowered and your not going to win any races. The Explorer for sure is faster but I have bottomed them out on small potholes. Not a fair comparison in my opinion even though technically the are the same class…

It’s a solid and truly an off-road worthy vehicle.

I’m not implying the Explorer is a 4Runner competitor or alternative, as you astutely observe they’re quite different. That said they’re about the same size and the engine bays are probably about the same size too.

So I think a V35A-FTS would fit in the current 4Runner, and if Toyota loves us they’ll make sure it fits in the next one.

What's your prediction for Toyota's next teaser pic? I'm guessing it will be a portion of the tailgate.

Interestingly, I'm pretty sure when the Tacoma first got "upgraded" from the old 4.0L to the new 3.5L V6, everyone was going on about how the 4.0L in the 4R was dangerously slow and when was it getting the new engine too. Not hearing many of those complaints any more.

I don't know, but I just told my wife it has red leather seats and she said "why? is that all they could get?"

Killed me! Not a fan of the red leather, I've gotta see this thing in person, so far I'm not convinced.

Could not agree more. After almost being ejected out of a 4Runner that had a sun roof, I will never own a vehicle with one.
