I took my truck in for warranty work as my catalytic converter already needed replacement at 37k miles on a 2018. They had a file on all the work done on it, including the fact they put an aftermarket converter on it. The Carfax only says "exhaust inspected". The service history though my Toytota app account doesn't say anything either. I'm worried there has been more done to this truck than I've been told. They would not let me see those records for some reason, only showed me that it was replaced. Why would they have to hide this from me on my own vehicle, and is anyone a dealer in here that can pull that for my own use? I'd compensate a little to buy you a lunch or something for your time.

The previous owner worked at the dealer, so there was a lot of shady stuff, including the back window replacement that never made the Carfax either. I can provide the VIN of course...Any help would be appreciated.

I don’t know if this will help but go to Toyota Owners .com and register. It has all the work I have ever done, by the dealership and personally done (manually input it) documented.

I have watched a YouTube video of a dealer who was being pretty hard on a 4Runner that he probably sold without a full disclosure. So, yes it definitely happens.

Thanks! I think that is what I have with the app but I'll check it out. I'm guessing the reason they wouldn't let me see it was it may have given real pricing instead of what they charge, the mechanics names, etc. I just want it to know how bad they screwed me so I know if I should trade it in or not. He did mention something about a national database if that means anything?

In all honesty if your concerned to the point of debating whether to trade it in or not…you could go to another dealership and have them do a full inspection. They will obviously go overboard but at least in THEORY you will have a general idea of the overall condition.

I have done this with a few private sales and I feel it was worth it.
