This is a prairie out in the valley which is pretty much the only area they haven’t (are in the process though) built yet. It’s definitely no desert. 2100ft above sea. Here is looking from atop a lil hill downtown.

 

@FirstGenVol There aren't trees out west unless you're in PNW, in the actual mountains, or down in a river bottom. The rest is rangeland or crop as far as the eye can see.

If PHM was around you'd be getting the zoolander merman meme. But yeah, the Smokies are technically a rain forest. We had over 60" of rain last year. Most of it is in the winter and spring.

I've got a new inhabitant in my yard... my neighbor is moving out of California this weekend and he uas had this guy for a few years. My wife surprisingly likes him and asked if they're taking him, Bob said we can have him.

Looks to be a Russian tortoise, at least 10 years old I would guess. Next week I'm gonna build a little house for him to hide in. For now I put a 2x2 board of plywood on some cinder blocks, he's chillin out in there.

 

@Darkness You may want to give him something to swim around/submerge himself in to cool off in the summer.

 

I asked my neighbor about that. He said he doesn't need water, he gets what he needs from earing fruits and veggies. To stay cool he will dig a burrow and hang out there. Thats how he has been living for the last 6 years across the street. He had a burrow dug under the shed but I have no shed. Planning to basically build him a dog house or dig in the ground and build a tunnel for him.
