    Exactly.

I have two friends that are enthusiastic about old muscle cars. One is a MOPAR guy, the other one is a GM guy. MOPAR guy owns a nice 383 4 speed 1970 Road Runner, the other one a dumpy old 1977 Camaro. MOPAR guy’s father in law is a Ford guy and built his daughter (MOPAR guy’s wife) a very very nasty 1966 Mustang fastback that literally pulls the front tires off the ground at will.

They all own trucks of their respective brand choices, and other vehicles. I have a Toyota truck and a modern GM sport sedan from Australia. We constantly give each other a hard time about vehicles. No one gets butt hurt like we see here.

The industry I work in is brutal on the hurt feels department. If we’re not flipping each other shit we aren’t talking. A couple of good friends of mine ran over a couple of maintenance guys a few years ago and killed them. Tragic situation. Within 5 months we were giving them shit about it, with such catchy insults during softball games as “Damn dude you hit that so hard I think an orange hard hat flew off of it!” or one guy’s wife wanted to know if he’d seen their dog, and before he could answer someone said “Nope he ran over it just like those maintenance of way guys.”

The Marine Corps was even worse.

Yet here we have grown ass adults getting mad because someone criticized their truck. Damn, my friends would have them curled up in a ball crying within about 5 minutes.

LOL ok the hard hat jokes I can see being butt hurt over! However the rest just had me thinking. Can you imagine if these sensitive people here grew up in the 60's when there had to be so much trash talking about Ford vs Chevy vs Mopar? But here we are in the age of sensitivity and everyone being hurt and feeling like they are entitled about everything. Maybe its a feeling of being entitled that nobody can talk bad about my Toyota! I just do not get all the hurt. It is a piece of metal that can be replaced unlike someone's head. :)

Who exactly here runs away crying when they don't agree with you? You're just making shit up now. I personally don't give a rats ass what truck you decide to buy, its none of my business. There are lots of smart truck people here, and to categorize them all as somehow being just uneducated Tundra fan boys is completely insulting, and totally ignorant on your part.

Look man, if you can’t stand to see my posts put me on ignore. No hard feelings.

Strangely in my 2nd paragraph I never once use the word “you”, I refer to myself and what works for me. Not you. It’s not always about you.

If you (talking to TILLY) want to infer I was directly accusing you of some actions that is not the case. However, I can’t force you to read communications at face value where I refer to myself as being about me or my experience. If you insist on considering them some sort of attack upon your honor that’s on you. Not much to be done about it on my end.

Shit talking is shit talking. Coping mechanisms for grim situations often resort to dark humor. If you’ve been there you understand if not, well good for you it’s a shitty place to end up. However it does help some guys.

This thread has devolved into something else.

There's some prime examples of the digital-age-social-de-evolution in this thread. A lot of these statements wouldn't be said in the physical presence of one another but the digital age allows this. Social-de-evolution in my book.

Let's get back to the 2022, shall we?

I'm in the market for a Tundra. Should I get the first production year of the next-gen? I bought a new first production Tundra back in 2000 and kept it on the road for 20 years. It's probably still rolling around somewhere. Or stick with a 2021. Then read about the kinks, let Toyota iron them out, and jump on a 23 or 24.

We're definitely circling the drain these days!

My experience with Japanese vehicles is that they RARELY make major errors in engineering, but also RARELY fess up to it when they do, short of a recall. I feel like they "ignore" any issues we consumers find and act like it doesn't exist.

Back in 2004 I was so excited for the then-new Nissan Titan. Nissan made very minor revisions to those trucks, the 2004-2006 was the first batch, 2007 had some upgrades learned from the 2004-2006, and 2008+ soldiered on for the rest of the run with a few more upgrades. It was Nissan's first full size truck, and even they are not as well regarded as Toyota, those trucks are solid.
However, most people I know have 2004 Titans, original owners, never had an issue in their ownership. I have a 2007, never had an issue. I've owned Toyota's, Honda's, Nissans, Infiniti, Acura, I can't recall any model of them that year 1 was troublesome and year 2 was resolved. Not saying year 1 vehicles didn't have issues, just saying I've never seen the issues be "bad" nor I have I seen any actual changes to address them. I also like how Toyota usually handles the few actual issues they have. Both Nissan/Infiniti and Toyota/Lexus had "melting"/sticky dash/interior problems on early 2000's vehicles. Toyota made an effort to resolve the issue, and Nissan told everyone to go pound sand. Also, the frame replacement issue, yes I know Toyota was sued, but dang, replacing a frame is a big commitment and at least Toyota is doing it.

There was 1 major issue with the first Tundra ever, IMO. The brakes were in adequate for the truck weight. It was plagued with warped rotor syndrome. Toyota fessed up and fixed it but you had to make a claim or report symptoms during the warranty period. I was in the military back then and was hardly around to drive it so I missed the chance to have it fixed under warranty. Luckily a dealer got Toyota to pay half of the brake upgrade after my warranty expired.

My OG radiator lasted 20 years but I didn't live in extreme weather.

I doubt Toyota will have many kinks to work out if their previous history is any indication. That said if you don’t have to buy a new vehicle right now, or next year you’ll probably save quite a bit of coin if you can wait until 2023. Hopefully by then supply of new cars and trucks is back to a more normal state.

Yeah....talking about the 2022 Tundra is a good idea.
If the 2021 Super Bowl and 2021 Chicago Auto Show aren't good places for the "Model Reveal", here are some other ideas:
    • Put the stats & specs in a press release, in a bottle, and toss it in the ocean someplace like "Zero-Zero Island"(mythical island in the Pacific).
    • Do a digital "Note-In-A-Bottle" that's easier to find with some clues.
    • Publish it in Welsh & post it on an obscure bulletin board in South Jersey.
    • Make a big P.R. stunt out of releasing the truck and all the specs at the Texas factory where it's built.
    • Area 51

Do you think the Tundra FI engine can get to 300k miles at a reasonable cost of ownership?

Maybe. Best stay on top of oil changes though.

The 3rd party contractor my employer uses for transporting crews around has a bunch of Ford Expeditions with the 3.5L EcoBoost and most of them are closing in on 300K. They’ve all been in the shop though, and have plenty of minor issues. Nothing major enough to deadline one of them yet.

Agreed...I'm just waiting for the right time to jump in with Marine jokes. (Former Navy/Army Reserves vet.) :D

On a semi-serious note...when my wife met me, she said quite often "I love you, but you have a very warped/sometimes cynical sense of humor." I tried to explain it to her, but eventually said "Look - you'll understand and need it one day."

Well, back in 2005, she had one hell of a week on her shift (@ the time she was a cardiac nurse in a cardiovascular ICU). We're talking doctors not answering on call, 3x the normal patient admission rate, etc....and it go so bad at one point they were calling literally *any* doctor they could find simply so the nurses could obtain and administer prescribed medications. Her week culminated in my Dad having a heart attack and her having to take care of him post-op. (Not that she minded, but she ended up with a pretty damn severe case of depression.)

A few months later she came up to me and said "....NOW I understand your warped sense of humor. You use it to deflect the pain and anger."

    Absolutely. LOL

What surprises me is that no one is talking about how the TRD Pro bedstamp is only on the tailgate now. Seems like the value for thieves and tailgates might've shot up if people are going to be TRD faux'ing their new trucks. Also, I can only imagine the pain of getting a replacement will be as well if the current manufacturing will be slowed for the foreseeable future. Just my conjecture.

    Any thoughts?

EDIT: I'm also curious to find if the oil filter will be moved to an easier location since we're moving to a newer engine.

I don't like how it's changed. I like the bed stamp on the side, it was unique and looked really good. The rear stamp is just like everyone else now.

If your wife or husband bitched about EVERYTHING in your general existence and you got angry would that make you sensitive?

It’s like listening to many politicians…has America done anything good?

Agreed, it's the constant bitching about absolutely anything that gets old. Some people will sit there and stare at the pictures that have been released until they can find something to bitch about. If you don't like what you see move on and find something you like. Life is too short to spend half of your time trying to find something to bitch about.

I’m cool with stamps so long as they don’t cover it in a bunch of stickers and badges- although since I’m a “selectively upgrade” an SR5 kind of guy a Pro logo won’t be in my future.

How soon do you need a truck? My first choice would be to just wait until 23 rather than buying a 21 then dumping it in a couple years.
My second choice would be buying a 21 and keeping it until the wheels fall off as long as it meets your needs (e.g. payload capacity).
