I have a cherry 2006, Limited long bed which I love . Has 36,000m with alot of time in the garage. IS the timing belt something I really need to replace at this time?

Nice score on a low mileage truck!

Id drive it, but "Im not a roll model"

With 36k on the clock, id drive it until mileage said so.

A 2006 with 36,000 miles? You need to post pics!

Even with low miles, an original timing belt introduces risk. It all depends on your comfort level. Personally, I would replace it.

On the 2006 the dealer says 10 years or 90,000 miles to replace the timing belt.

It is not the miles, it is the age. Replace it.
If it breaks on you that beautiful truck will become a large paperweight until you can find a new motor or have yours rebuilt. Replacing it would be $ well spent.

Based on age I would replace the timing belt if it's never been done. Best to have them replace the timing belt tensioner and water pump too.

I believe that the mileage recommendations are made with consideration that a vehicle would be driven daily. 90k miles would take six years to accumulate for an average driver. Using that as a loose guide you are 9 years overdue.

I would have the timing belt and water pump job done. Consider it an investment. At $1200-1500 it is a good investment vs replacing a (very low mileage) motor and stepping into the ballpark of $6k and the issues that often come from a replaced motor.

Thats a beautiful truck. Congratulations, take good care of it as that is practically made of gold.

Welcome to the forum, as said above, age is a huge factor. I'd not only do timing belt, all belts and important hoses such as heater hoses, radiator hoses, etc. Might want to check out spare tire age too

That motor is basically irreplaceable. You won't find a used one with miles that low and a rebuild is significantly more expensive than a t-belt job.
Do that preventative maintenance and then laugh heartily at the rest of us as your time-capsule truck is still breaking in while ours are getting long in the tooth.

She's a beaut! Take good care of it and it'll take great care of you.

Beautiful truck, for that age especially. I would replace the timing belt just because of the age if it were me. If the dealer said "10 years or 90,000 miles" then it would default to the least which would be "ten years".

If that thing is as mint as it appears then you'll get top dollar and it'll sell in a day or two. Do lots of research on what they go for before you price it. In today's market, you'll clean up for sure.

    First off welcome!

to answer your question about the t-belt ideally it should be replaced every 6-10 years or 90k (dryer climates will be closer to a 6 year interval) Rubber drys out over time and this can lead to failure of the belt.

if you were to sell now is indeed the time, but honestly, that things still practically new and financially would be a better move to keep. But obviously it is dated and a new truck would bring you to a modern world of automotive comfort.
